So the ACU corners will need to be ready for record-setting WR MJ Link (6'0 180) on Saturday. He owns the record for longest TD reception (99 yards) and blitzed WTAMU last week with 8 catches for 140 yards.
He's QB Clayton Roberts (6'3 210, redshirt Jr) favorite target. Last week, he completed 72% of his attempts last week.
This is definitely a step-up in competition.

The game notes are out in a very timely fashion (tip of the hat to new SID Jordan Herrod). There are some changes to the depth chart from last week:
-at RB we have Tyrese as the starter and Anthony Smith as backup -- Jermiah Dobbins may be out this week as well
-we have 3 WR position listed as we usually do, at one WR Taelyn Williams moves into the starting position in the place of Alex Spadone
-only 1 change on defense, Roland Williams and Triston Anderson have switched spots, with Williams moving to the starter (not a big surprise after this past week)
I am glad to see some tweaks -- this shows that there is a higher likelihood that the depth chart is more accurate.
UTPB is far better than I assumed they would be when I first saw they were on the schedule. Are they as good as Angelo? I don't know for sure, but Angelo certainly embarrassed the Wildcats last year. One thing for certain -- the Falcons are considerably better than LA College. I am thinking something like ACU winning 34-21, with Zepeda booming 2 long field goals.

Keeping my ears to the turf, I have heard that Dobbins is close but won’t play until conference starts. Spadone is also dinged up, don’t know what it is. Overall, it seems that the coaching staff is not rushing those who might be hurting, preferring to try and be at full strength for Lamar and UCA.

Being healthy for the Lamar and UCA games are FAR more important. Speaking of Lamar, do we know which of the Lamar games will count as the official "conference game", since we are playing twice in one year. I remember when ACU played UIW twice in one year a few years and only 1 of the games counted toward the conference standings.

Just glancing through the game notes, UTPB has quite a bit of size on the O and D line, far exceeding what the Wildcats have. This should be an excellent test all the way around.
Examples: DL La'Daidreain Glasker (6'1 330). He'll be wearing #5. DL Joseph Williams (6'5 350) DL TJ Poloai (6'2 320) OT Matt Groeschel (6'6 330). I think we offered his brother, Austin who went to Texas St.

I think we offered his brother, Austin who went to Texas St. We should probably get used to it. It seems very likely that we will be outweighed by virtually every team we face for the rest of the season. Do quickness, leverage, balance and other variables matter more than heft? Saturday should provide a tentative answer.

Agreed. For decades it seems, Army has made a living by valuing technique over size. And other programs over the years--BYU, Boise St, and present-day Coastal Carolina come to mind--have been able to be successful by packaging scheme with smart team play. Interested to see our progress.

Keys for tomorrow-
1. We have to get off to get a good start. When we played Angelo St last year, we fell behind early. When that happened, we were shell shocked and could not ever get a game plan going
2. We have to establish the run. If we run the ball well, that will open up the passing game
3. We have to stop the run. Their RB is a former Arizona Wildcat, and he's pretty good
4. We have to get pressure on the QB. Sacks would be nice, but as Coach Dorrel said in his press conference, we have to make him uncomfortable and get him off his spot
5. We have to force turnovers. We have yet to force a single turnover this season.

Looked good on the first drive — no so much since that drive.

UTPB just playing smash mouth ball with the occasional throw downfield — with some success.

Right now a D2 team about 5 years into existence appears to be our equal.

That was a nice drive — too bad to see the TD run come back due to a 2nd holding call on Truett Knox. Still got a FG out of it.
