The first FBS College Football Playoff Rankings comes out on November 2. I think there are definitely more teams vying for the final 4 playoff spots than in the recent past. Afterall, Clemson, Penn St, and LSU are out of the running already with multiple losses. Additionally, Alabama, Ohio St, Oregon, and Notre Dame already have losses.
Georgia, Cincinnati, Oklahoma, Michigan, Michigan St, Wake Forest, SMU, San Diego St and UTSA are still undefeated. Anyone going undefeated has a chance for the playoffs depending on how other teams end the season.
Georgia is a sure thing even with a loss down the line in my opinion. Cincinnati, Oklahoma, Michigan and the rest of the undefeated teams will have to win out to make the final four.
My guess for the final four is Georgia, CIncinatti (assuming they win out), Ohio St-Michigan winner and Alabama (especially if they beat Georgia). I think Oklahoma and Oregon will lose a game after this week and miss the playoffs.
Title was changed from BCS to FBS.

I don't make any guesses at this point, but it has been nice seeing things mixed up a little more this season.

Do you mean the CFP Rankings? Yes it is College Football Playoff Rankings for FBS teams. FBS teams are Division 1-A teams. ACU is a FCS (Football Championship Series) team Division 1-AA. I used BCS in title to distinguish from non 1-A division teams. Changed title to FBS from BCS.

I thought that the “Powers That Be” retired the term “Bowl Championship Series” when they developed the 4 team playoff format and the NY6 system.

Regarding your predictions, I think UGA is in, but if they win out, Alabama would be out. I don’t see a path for UTSA. An interesting question is if SMU beats Cincy and wins out, would they be left out because of their SOS? What if OU loses, does that mean the Big12 is out?

Obviously it would take some upsets for UTSA or SMU to get in, but if there are no other undefeated teams, it would be possible. If Alabama loses a very close game to Georgia they might have a chance depending on other results. If Alabama beats Georgia, I think both would get in. LSU was placed in the playoffs with 2 losses when Les Miles was coach and they won the championship. I do not think a Big 12 team with a loss will make the playoffs, unless other upsets occur.

Ask UCF if going unbeaten gets you in the playoffs. Nope. At the end of the day it’s about the TV audience. Since ESPN controls the SEC, expect 2 SEC teams and two others. Ohio State with 1 loss and OU if they win out.

This week I’m going with Georgia, Cincinnati, Alabama and OU. The winner of the Michigan State-Michigan-Ohio State trifecta could move up in the weeks ahead and if Alabama loses to Georgia in the SEC title game they could fall out.

Ohio State with 1 loss and OU if they win out. There is no doubt with only four teams making the playoffs, a team like SMU, Wake Forest or UTSA could definitely go undefeated and never crack the top four teams. I do like your picks, but Cincinatti is in if they win out for sure.

Good point KJ. Cincinnati is in head to head against OU but probably not if head to head against OSU.
