I’m sure it will after 8:30 team meeting this morning that was called last night. I expect mass exodus of players, new staff will be heavy in the portal.

Just watching the game yesterday, I could tell Coach Dorrel was not himself. He was very reserved on the sidelines. He probably knew or had a very good idea that this would be his last game.

Many moons ago, we hired an “outsider” in Ronnie Peacock, and it didn’t workout well for anyone. IMHO, we forgot the lesson in hiring Coach Dorrel, although, I don’t disagree his NWMO record looked encouraging. That said, ACU must hire a “practicing Campellite”, preferably, one who’s an ACU grad with a proven resume, as our job has some very unique challenges. Go Wildcats!!

This move seems to have been in the works for a while. How long before a new coach is named? Do they already have their guy? I say yes or almost yes. Top 3 on my wish list (in no particular order) Kitley, Baker, Thomsen. Of course, who knows if any of those guys would come here.
Since I’m a Statistics guy, here are my early odds: CT 2-1; ZK 5-1; JDB; 10-1; someone else 3-1.
Since you asked, we CAN afford any of them if they will come. It will take $300k - $400k per year, but thats a good investment for the right guy.
IMO. There are various reasons they might come. Move back to Texas, become a head coach, Bailey Zappe graduating, FSU a big rebuild, retirement in Abilene or, hopefully, love ACU enough to return.
Watch this space.

Don’t forget about an increase in assistant salary pool, if your talking about one of those guys, their assistant picks won’t be cheap. CT’s making 500k at FSU as TE coach, they are in upswing after disastrous start. I think this change cost 700k-800k with paying Dorrel, increase in HC salary and assistant pool. Current coaches contracts run through end of December.

Have heard from someone who knows him that CT wants to retire in ATown and is ready to leave FBS coaching. I expect he would come back for less. But I’m totally speculating. With his experience and P5 contacts, I think he could bring us back quickly. Who wouldn’t love to see Stone Earle in Kitley’s offense.

I think more than anything we need a Coach who can recruit. I believe that was Dorrel's down fall. Find a young coach with a lot of energy or an experienced coach who knows how to build a team from zero.
