Will a search committee be publically named? The firm Eastman & Beaudine is heading the search. The hope is to have coach named by first of year. I would assume early signing period is out. This question is specifically for Evan @ KTXS: 1. What do you know about Eastman & Beaudine? 2. Where are they located? 3. What’s their client list? 4. Do they merely represent schools looking to hire like ACU, or do they also represent coaches (e.g. Jimmy Sexton)? 5. Who have they helped make similar hires? Thanks. Go Wildcats!!

Go Wildcats!! www.eastman-beaudine.com/I see online EB appears to represent a lot of A.D. & Administration positions. Online they show Karl Dorrell as a recent Football Head coach placement. Interesting enough this Dorrell is 4 & 7 at University of Colorado.

Understood. Maybe a topic for a none-too-distant sportscast? Regardless, thanks for responding.

I someone mentioned Tremaine Jackson as a potential candidate. I mention this because someone responded to that comment that he was one of 5 candidates. Can anyone verify the legitimacy of this claim or the person who made the claim?

The advantage of hiring a search firm are myriad even when there may be obvious candidates. 1. They have relationships with coach's agents and can find out who might be interested without putting anyone on the spot. 2. They can do introductory interviews, background checks and other due diligence to make sure there are no surprises among final candidates. 3. They are excellent at maintaining professional confidentiality. 4. They maintain compensation information so that we don't fall in love only to find out we can't afford him.
While my previous posts were primarily to get us talking, you (the posters) have made me think pretty seriously about finding an African American head coach. We have a lot of black athletes but we only have white head coaches and I think this needs to change if we are going to project that we are serious about diversity and improving the black students' experiences. Football would be a great place to start. Of course, we can't force the issue. The candidate should have the requisite qualities other than being black, of course. But there are a lot of high quality assistants and a handful of head coaches out there with great character and great experience.

Capn’, your search firm logic is sound, as is your recommendation on giving more than lip service to a minority candidate. As the saying goes, actions speak louder than words. That said, I’m intrigued by Coach Jackson, especially because I never considered him (but should have) until mentioned in this thread.

I agree it is time to look for a quality coach of a minority status. There are plenty of people who meet that qualification and the other qualifications we have discussed in this thread, but it is about finding the right guy for the job. I don't believe ACU has had a black head coach for football (correct me if I am wrong please), nor am I aware of other minority head coaches at ACU (again, please correct me if I am wrong). I think it is important we make a real concerted effort at changing that.

I am not 100% sold on Coach Jackson yet due to his limited head coaching experience at a high level, but boy do I remember getting fired up watching him coach. His high energy is infectious and his defense was the best I've seen at ACU.

His high energy is infectious and his defense was the best I've seen at ACU. Looking back in order to forward: 1. ACU’s had four HC’s since 2000 (by name & prior job): a. Gary Gaines (HS HC) b. Chris Thomsen (D-II OL) c. Ken Collums (D-Ii OC) d. Adam Dorrel (D-II HC) 2. Unlike d., Tremaine Jackson hasn’t won a National title; 3. However, like b. & c. he has prior coaching experience @ ACU; and, 4. Like d., he’s run his own program, successfully While I’d still use the search firm per Capn’s description, I’d sure hope Coach Jackson is one of the serious candidates as I think we do well to have him, or, whoever’s better.

I would be first in line to welcome coach Jackson as our new HC. He coaches with passion and fire, is approachable by fans, great with the athletes and in living rooms. Sign me up!
