I am glad Sam Houston did not win the championship again as they now move to FBS.

FCS Semifinal games odds by Massey S Dakota St (-4.5) at #8 Montana St #3 James Madison at #2 N Dakota St (-6.5) I agree with you, mike, about SHSU. Using that same logic, I will cheer against JMU, who starts their journey to FBS after this season as well. I was reading an article about the JMU move to FBS and it mentions in the article that JMU will "transition" to FBS over the next 2 years and will move to the Sun Belt "no later than July 1, 2023." So, will the JMU (and SHSU) still play a conference schedule in the fall of 2022, but not count in the standings? I would assume that part of the "transition" would include the schools moving toward the 85 scholarship limit. The "transition" from FCS to FBS is not fraught with the same pitfalls as the D-2 to D-1 four year transition -- FCS and FBS have the same entrance requirements for eligibility. The transition from D-2 to D-1 has the 4 year transition period in ALL sports to weed out the athletes who matriculate to D-2 who fall under the academic and/or age standards for D-1. Will JMU and SHSU be eligible for a bowl game immediately? After all, there is now a staggering 42 bowl games at the FBS and literally every team that reached 6 wins this season (84 of them) will play in a bowl.

Trackfan, don’t quote me on this but, I believe the transition from D-2 to FBS is much longer than FCS to FBS as, in the latter scenario, the school is already meeting D-1 requirements, hence it’s strictly financial. As to whether JMU competes next season in the CAA I believe to be different from Sam in the WAC as the CAA has already said JMU will be denied the right to compete for championships due to their decision to move. Very petty IMHO. As a result and subject to scheduling, I believe JMU will more likely compete as an independent.

Fanatic, so what does that look like for SHSU? Has it been announced if they will still play a WAC schedule? If so, will that game count in conference standings?
So, with UIW moving into the WAC this coming summer, as well as Southern Utah moving over from the Big Sky, and assuming that SHSU can't count in the standings, that will give the WAC 7 FCS football playing schools next fall -- ACU, SFA, Lamar, UIW, Southern Utah, Tarleton and Dixie St (Utah Tech?), but both Tarleton and Dixie will only be in their third year of D-2 to D-1 transition. Once again the Auto bid will be in a precarious position with only 5 schools that are fully eligible.

WAC, to my knowledge, has not taken a stance like the CAA has, and, frankly, the reporting of the announcement put the CAA in a very negative light. Consequently, unless the WAC takes such a stance, Sam’s a member “with all rights and appurtenances thereto”. Re: eligibility, we were already recruiting additional members b/4 Sam’s announcement, so, I don’t see that changing except to intensify.

For those teams jumping to FBS, I'm guessing that putting a conference schedule together for 2022 is going to be difficult. So JMU and SHSU might need a couple of years following the move.

Not FCS playoffs but currently watching Zappe and Stearns destroy the App. St. defense in the Boca Raton Bowl. Zappe broke the FBS single season passing yards record and tied Joe Burrows passing TD record in the 1st half. This is the same Zappe that the vaunted ACU pass defense held to less than 300 yds in two ACU wins over HBU in 2018-2019. Didn't have the same team around him at HBU vs ACU but still. Over 300 yds in 1st half vs App St.
