Wish we had seen similar hype about our hire Spit in one hand, wish in the other. Get back to me on the results. We received huge hype after we hired Dorrel. How did that work out?

I would love to see an avalanche of assistants announced immediately after the hire, but that isn't going to happen. Coach Patterson is working hard on coaching the Tech defense (and hopefully recruiting some Tech kids who might be on the verge of entering the portal themselves.) Having Coach Seawright on board at least gives ACU someone who can work to re-recruit key people who have entered the portal who have not committed elsewhere. That list is not terribly long -- Kobe Clark, Greg Green, maybe Osaretin Obadeyi. Has Remington Lutz actually committed elsewhere? Are there any others that can't be easily replaced (there I am talking about those who have not committed -- not the obvious losses that truly hurt).
I go along with the idea that some, if not most, of the potential staff members are tied to schools who are in bowl games and won't be announced until right after the first of the year, unless they are piecemealed out as they sign contracts. I read a recent post about the transfer portal that to date, 24% of the FBS players who have entered the portal have actually signed elsewhere. That leaves over 3/4ths of the FBS players seeking to transfer who are still available. That does not even include the FCS players who have entered the portal. The spring semester at ACU begins on January 10th and if we haven't seen some transfers come along by that date, I will get worried. The transfer portal has radically changed the recruiting landscape, the old ways of doing things simply don't work the same way. I am like everyone on this board -- I would love to see a steady flow of athletes committing to ACU, but I don't think it is panic time yet.

Lutz committed to Southern Illinois. I'm hoping Clark will decide to stay. Just don't know how awkward it is to enter the portal and then decide to stay at your original school.

Thanks, Bucfan, I should have searched on Twitter and would have found that about Lutz. I also see that Dre Jones has committed (and signed?) with Florida A&M. Dre had a pretty good season in 2021, but I don't think that is a huge loss for ACU. Stapp, Earle, and now Lutz, I see those as big losses for the 'Cats. Buc, that is a good point about remaining at a school after entering the portal. I read up on it briefly. I player CAN still remain at the school, if the original school allows them to stay and have not rescinded the scholarship. I think players like Kobe and Greg Green would be welcomed back with open arms. That is why I hope that the new Ops Director is "re-recruiting" some of those players who could really help before it is too late.

Isn't the ops director basically in charge of scheduling travel and equipment logistics? I don't think the previous one had anything to do with recruiting or football activity. Is this different?

ACU has not really had a "football operations person" in the past. I noted on the ACU press release that Jordan Seawright is listed as the "Associate Athletic Director/Football Chief of Staff" and that he would handle "all day-to-day operations of the football program". That indicates to me that his duties will be rather far-flung.
I also read that at TAMU-C, he "coordinated team and player community service projects and managed the team's travel, budget and recruiting". A school with a large staff like Tech, would allow a football operations person to concentrate in a certain narrow area, a school with a budget like ACU's would probably combine multiple positions into one. Note that one of his roles at Tech was as football recruiting coordinator, so a combo position that also included both of his former roles at Tech would make sense.

Wasn't Landon Autrey the director of football operations?

Landon (great kid, incidentally) was listed as the Director of Football Ops. His position was much narrower. He was part-time and basically a Grad Asst -- he is a grad student at Tech, but was able to take his classes virtually this fall. The last time I spoke with Landon he was planning to move to Lubbock for in-person classes this spring. Landon shot tape, he posted ACU football items on social media (most of what I learned about ACU football for a 2-3 year span was due to Landon). It was a way for Landon to get his foot in the door.
I did notice that Landon is still listed on the ACU coaching staff on-line, along with KP and Jordan S. Maybe he will still be doing some of the same things for ACU this spring.

Trackfan, that is correct. I think the hope is Landon will stay and be the assistant to Jordan. But with Jordan, you have someone with a bit more experience and age

Does anyone know the details of the new guy’s contract re; the pool of dollars for assistants? It was pretty inadequate previously

There is buzz that deep pockets have opened up. Nothing specific has come my way. Of course i haven’t exactly been around lately
