Just got word from Scott. He has finished sync'ing the mirrors. He is back home and will come to ACU sometime to share the stories and experiences of this magnificient and successful accomplishment. He could not share the most confidential images just yet but he did say that they are far superior to the Hubble images and added this astonishing bit of news: No matter how far the telescope points there is nothing but solid galaxies -- the universe is not just infinite, it is a never ending volume of more galaxies than our minds can comprehend. Creation is more than we humans can truly understand (which we knew already.)

Meteor strike and all, the JWST is exceeding expectations. But get ready, July 12 is the release date from NASA for first publically available images. Scott tells me they are remarkable.

A good video about the first five days of images from the JWST telescope:

This is pretty amazing, Jupiter'r rings are visible further down the page. blogs.nasa.gov/webb/2022/08/22/webbs-jupiter-images-showcase-auroras-hazes/To add a few interesting things about Jupiter's Red Spot; the spot is actually turning more orange over time, it is getting smaller, and it could disappear in a short few decades. The "Red Spot" is not always visible from earth. Jupiter revolves in 10 hours or so and photograpers typically like to take pictures when you can see the Red Spot. Now, those rings... that is something to ponder. Saturn and Uranus have rings so why not Jupiter?

One of my favorites is a deep space view. You can actually see the distortion of distant galaxies due to gravitational lensing. Literally thousands of galaxies are visible and the area of the sky viewed is the size of the end of a drinking straw. God is indeed infinite! I would venture to say that there are more galaxies than grains of sand on the seashore.

Dr. Scott Action will be speaking on the James Webb Thursday evening, Oct. 13, at 7:00 PM in the Boone Auditorium (formerly Cullen). Also, there will be an art exhibit at the Shore Art Gallery in the Morris Center, through Homecoming, honoring the legacy and influence of my dad, Dr. Brent Green, as a teacher and chairman of the ACU Art Department. Our family is very honored that this exhibit featuring his and the work of following four professional generations is being shown. Special thanks to Dr. Robert Green and the Art Faculty.

I looked, but doesn't look like this one needs reservations.

Scott knocked it out of the park with his early talk to the physics and engineering majors at lunch. The JWST had to over come many challenges as backup and alternate approaches were needed to get the telescope finally in place and aligned or in phase. It was an amazing accomplishment. Here is Scott on a video. And I just have to add, he was one of the most enjoyable students.
