Wildcat0075, yes, there are different strength coaches. Currently, Luke Lancaster is listed as the Director of Strength and Conditioning with Brandon Decker and Reid Miller serving as assistants. What I have seen in the past is Decker mainly handled football and basketball. I'm assuming this change could mean one of this is gone Sounds better than my days. When I first got to ACU Cliff Felkins was the S&C but really was mainly the throwers coach for T&F. After Cliff left with Wes to Texas Tech, Coach David Hess took over for the rest of my time at ACU. Loved coach Hess and he was always good to have an extra ticket when I came back or home games while he was still there.

While I was "waxing an elephant" in my previous post, the new S&C coach for football was announced. I like everything I read about Corey Smith. I particularly like that a focus for him historically has been on the nutrition element. Knowing well some of the ACU athletes, I believe that the nutritional aspect for athletes may need some fine-tuning at ACU.

A little about Julian Wilson-
Wilson attended the University of Oklahoma from 2011 to 2014, where he was a three-year letterwinner and a two-year starter at cornerback. He was redshirted as a true freshman in 2010. Wilson appeared in 48 career games with 22 starts during his career with the Sooners, collecting 99 tackles (76 of them solo and 6.5 for loss), four interceptions (one of which went for 100 yards as he returned it for a touchdown), and 15 pass deflections. Played in the NFL with the Ravens, Chiefs and Vikings from 2015-2017. He joined Texas Tech as a grad assistant in 2020

Looks like we are going pretty heavy on Texas Tech staff but that makes since with KP's background. As ACU TF pointed out, it will be nice to have a coaching staff with experience at the next level who knows what that looks like. Hopefully they can raise the expectations across the board.

He was a CB, so that should complement the new DC, who had a lot of experience as a safeties coach.

Well stated. My parents came to Abilene thinking it was Childers Classical Institute only to find out it was Abilene's Christian College on North 1st. My older brother attended ACC and played baseball. When the time came, I could not afford ACU (ACC back then) but four or five colleges offered basketball scholarships and when ACU finally came through and offered me a scholarship, I was hooked for a lifetime. I say all this only to emphasize that I will always hold ACU to a higher standard and ask for greater excellence. So over the years, I have to say what ACU has done and become has met my hopes. It is an unusually competent university, both academically and athletically. Our support is quite good for our size, just look at our endowment and at all the grants and awards.
I have to remind myself, we are are a small university, we are a place with rules not just any student would agree to follow, we are a place that has not paid top tier compensation to faculty and coaches and their helpers, and we are located in a city not known for the greatest of student activities... and yet, such amazingly high qualitiy people are at ACU and frankly ACU plays far above its weight for the most part. So I think the thing that unifies all of us is somehow related to the uniqueness of our university and its mission. When I complain it is only to share a desire to be better, otherwise I appreciate and commend every person involved in the journey of a remarkable ACU. Never assume anything I say is a heart felt negative, it is only things related to hoping for higher and higher achievement. It is happening, and on many fronts. I am looking for great achievements and they are coming, sooner or later.

It’s not up to KP to announce them. I’m guessing this is HR paperwork that is having to be completed. When it is and everything is approved, announcements can take place.

Coach Dubin is in. Not officially announced yet, but his twitter handle says Abilene
A little bit about him
Conor Dubin is in his third season as a quality control assistant on the Texas Tech staff, bringing with him a strong familiarity with defensive coordinator Keith Patterson. Dubin has worked under Patterson each of the past six seasons after serving in various roles at Arizona State from 2015-17, as a defensive graduate assistant at Utah State in 2018 and then in his current role at Tech in 2019. He began his tenure in Tempe as a student assistant for two seasons before being elevated to a defensive quality control coach in 2017. Utah State transformed into one of the most opportunistic defenses in the country during Dubin’s one season in Logan as the Aggies shared the FBS lead with 32 forced turnovers. The production defensively helped push Utah State to an 11-2 season, matching the most wins in program history. In addition, Utah State also led the country with 22 interceptions, the majority of which came from the defensive backs group Dubin assisted with. The Aggies were also the nation’s leader in three-and-outs forced (5.7 per game) and ranked third in defensive touchdowns (6), 16th in third down conversion defense (33.0 percent), 19th in passing efficiency defense (113.76), 21st in fourth down conversion defense (41.9 percent) and 33rd in scoring defense (22.2 points per game). Dubin primarily worked with Arizona State’s linebackers prior to his arrival in Logan as he helped mentor Pac-12 tackles leader Sam Christian in 2017 as well as fellow linebacker DJ Calhoun. Fellow linebacker Antonio Longino shared the FBS lead with 1.7 tackles for a loss per game in 2016, while Fiso Salamo led the Pac-12 in the category (20.0 tackles for a loss) during Dubin’s first season on staff. Prior to his time in Tempe, Dubin was the inside lienbackers coach and varsity defensive coordinator at Flintridge Preparatory School in La Canada, California. He also served as an athletics department assistant during that time as well. A native of Los Angeles, Dubin was a linebacker at Dickinson College in Carlisle, Pennsylvania from 2010-12 before an injury forced him to medically retire. He graduated from Arizona State in 2016 with a degree in sociology.
