The 5th out of 6 games in conference we have allowed 10 or more 3’s. Other than Dixie St, every other conference game we are giving up about 45% from three. At the same time, we had two games out of those 6 shooting 40% or better from three. Allen is a next level talent…last year we played one guy in conference that was like that and it was Nutall from Sam Houston who moved on to SMU, this year we are going to see most teams in our conference with someone that good (Flagg, Blackshear, Aimaq, and Seattle has a couple.)
I wonder if the fact we have to double and play backside help so much leads to our defense collapsing and leaving shooters with too easy of looks is the reason (not a X’s and O’s basketball guy). On the flip side, we are being pressured heavy as of late and are not winning the turnover battle by much.
All that to say we just went through the toughest 6 game stretch on our schedule…but we still have two tough games coming up at home in Seattle and CBU.

We have no spark off the bench. We have no defensive stopper on the team to put on a player who gets hot. I would have liked to see Smith at 6'6" on their 6'6" guard. Mason at 6' was no match for him.

In my amateur assessment, three’s are not the problem. We are so small, we have no inside game at all against these teams. The only thing that kept us in this game at all was our free throw shooting.

That’s my point…because of our size disadvantage we collapse anytime they try and get to the post or we trap in the corner and they easily pass over our defense and swing it around the arc to an open shooter. We can’t play one on one defense very often because of size and we don’t have a rim protector so we swarm to prevent teams from getting to the basket and teams are hitting perimeter shots against us. We typically jump passing lanes and force teams into errant passes but we haven’t been able to do that lately. On top of that, we aren’t shooting well enough.

Trying to find stats to compare and what it seems to show is we are 290th in the country in opponent 3point percentage and 350 in blocks percentage. Was trying to find something on points in the paint but will have to keep looking.

I can remember very few blocks this season and our defense from shots beyond the arc has been non-existent during our recent losing streak.
