Football Moma is an insightful person! But a story... at the Showcase scrimmage there was a lady with a shirt that had "Football Mama" across it. I asked her if she posted here thinking it might be our "Football Mama", but she said she was not a poster on CatChat, not the person I thought she might be. She was very nice and obviously an ACU booster but apparently not our knowledgeable "Football Mama." I was at the showcase, but I do not own a Football Mama shirt!!!! Maybe I will have to get one!

A bit of a surprise, WR Jordan Brooks-Wess hits the transfer portal. I think this will be the 4th time he has transferred
Why so many? First, new staff is evaluating these players. Second, there is a May 1 deadline in the NCAA for a player to transfer. If a player wants to transfer and be eligible to play in the fall of 2022, they MUST transfer by May 1. Now, there are waivers that can happen, but the NCAA does not have to approve it

Like viewing your home on Zillow, the portal brings a thrill to see how much one is worth. You may be given an 'X' grade from the current coaching staff, but another school's staff might give you an 'X+.' That's exciting, but you can also be quickly humbled if you're not as worth as much as you thought.

A place I’ve lived for 1,2 or 3 years, worked hard to make a home and say your not what I’m looking for and can’t live there anymore. Maybe if your lucky, the coach lets you know you can stay… but you just have to pay more to have the opportunity to play for ACU or any other college. College athletics is a full-time training commitment. Yes we all have deliverables at our jobs. Though I’m guessing very few on this site work on a year-to-year contract… with someone looking over your shoulder that is tasked to find your bigger, stronger and faster replacement. I bet if you did, you’d be on a job board looking for a new job. If you do have a boss trying to find your replacement, thank your lucky stars you don’t have to tell or ask your employer before you’re able to start looking for a new job…

So does everyone think the coaches really come in and tell a player “you don’t fit our style, maybe look for somewhere else to go”?? If a player is a PLAYER he will find his way on to the field. Now if a coaching staff totally changes the scheme from air raid to power I, then I get it. If we switch from a 3-3-5 to a 4-3, I get it. But if a kid is an athlete and a competitor and is talented enough to play at this level, then a coach isn’t going to come in and say ‘you don’t fit what we do’ but is rather going to find a way to have the best team out there that they can and will make it work.
I imagine we have plenty of scholarships left unaccounted for, surely we aren’t telling kids to get out, but rather telling them the truth. If the truth is they see that player as a seldom used special teams/scout team player and the kid wants to play as much as possible for what eligibility they have left and the kid chooses to find more opportunity elsewhere, so be it. But if it’s that they tell a kid he’s got to work on certain things, get quicker, bulk up, slim down, then I do it if you like the school and the coaches and your teammates. Those are physical traits athletes should be able to work on.

I get the feeling that Coach Goodenough is pretty open with her players about their future. If she doesn't see them playing much over the next few years, she tells them and then leaves the next move to them. If they decide to move on they have her support. If they decide to stay and be a backup they have her support. I'm hoping this is what KP is doing.

Not so much for how good they are or are not but whether they have met other expectations - practice, off season, conditioning, academics, etc. Julie's bar is pretty high. But yes, she is honest with her players, for sure.

Roster update-
Gone from the team QB Hunter Loyd. He transferred in from UCA, but really seemed to struggle in the scrimmage I saw. 2 QB's ahead of him, and with Ethan Long coming in, he would be 4th on the depth chart TE Hunter Marchinkowski. Former Texas Tech walk-on. LB Joshua James Part-time player S Kam Stokes. Part-time player S Luke Dillingham. Really surprised by this one. Was hurt much of his first year, but really seemed like he would be a player here.

Ugh -- hate seeing Dillingham leave. I hoped he might help ACU get a Brock HS pipeline going.

It's an epidemic! I'm also sorry to see Dillingham leave. His film and speed was impressive. Wonder if he'll try Minnesota with Nathan Jones?

Mavsman, that roster that you maintain at the front of this thread is beginning to looking bare! I hope we get a bunch of transfers coming in or the sidelines will look kind of sparse this next season.

Waiting for some OL commits that footballmama and mavsman alluded to but we seem to be springing more leaks that need to be filled.

From what I’ve heard the coaches are honest with their assessment of the player’s talent level. Which is great! I believe in the old saying one man’s treasure is another man’s trash…Figuratively speaking.
