I think Zappe can make an NFL roster and help a team (in the right situation). He doesn't have the size (6' 1/2 215), raw athleticism, or arm strength of some other QBs, but he's very skilled and has improved his decision making a lot since he was facing the Cats. I think we could all attest that he's got more escapability than defenses will give him credit for. Less than Drew Brees but greater than Kellen Moore? Maybe the next Colt McCoy or Case Keenum? From what I see, Zappe's right at their measureables and certainly has some of their intangibles. Most scouting services, though, rank Zappe as the 7th to 8th best QB prospect. Interestingly enough, top-ranked Malik Willis (6' 1/2 217) chose not to do athletic testing, just throwing. Most of headlines rave about his arm strength, but he and his receivers had difficulty connecting on deep balls (and there's no defense at the combine). I guess the scouts just look at how far the ball went and how easy it was for him to throw it that far. I just don't get why Willis (the transfer from Auburn to Liberty) has the hype. He's been productive in his 23 career starts for the Flames but first round? Also Cole Kelley from SELA (6'7 250) is ranked 10th.

I fondly remember when we opened Wildcat Stadium, I was one of the students that was in our new student section right behind the HBU bench. Zappe had a very rough game against us, and the phone to call up to the coordinators was right below me. Needless to say, I had a field day with him after every offensive drive. It really is impressive seeing how well rounded his game has become.

19/32 205 (1 TD 1 Int) -- Not bad a debut for a first preseason game and playing with lots of reserves. Accurate back shoulder throws. Gave receivers chances to make plays. Only sacked once. For contrast: First round pick Malik Willis of the Titans: 6-11 107 yards (one throw 48 yards) // rushing numbers: 5-38 and TD // two sacks.

Looks like Bailey gets the start this week against the Lions and Matthew Stafford.

That would be Jerrod Goff. Stafford plays for the Rams. Thanks, Bogey for not calling me out in front of everyone.

The Patriots got off to a slow start, but Zappe effectively led his team to another win on Sunday (10/16). 24/34 309 yards two TDS. Not bad for the 4th-round pick.
Here's how the rest of the rookie QB group did on Sunday:
Malik Willis (Tennessee) -- Titans did not play Kenny Pickett (future face of the Pittsburgh Steelers) 11/18 67 yards 1 TD, replaced mid-game by Mitch Trubisky Sam Howell (Washington) DNP Desmond Ridder (Atlanta) DNP Matt Corral (Carolina) DNP Brock Purdy (San Francisco) DNP Skyler Thompson (Miami) 7/13 89 yards, left game injury (thumb), replaced by Terry Bridgewater
