I'm redoing the first post for Women's Basketball 2022-2023 to reflect the changes we know of so the roster as of March 31. Updated May 24. THIS appears to be the fall roster.
Point Guard: Taylor Morgan 5'6 (jr); Zoe Jackson 5’7 (soph);Tristan Keller 5'8 (fr)
Shooting Guard/Small Forward: Madi Miller 5'9 (gr); Bella Earle 5'10 (soph); Reagan Fox 5'10 (fr); Claire Graham 5'9 (fr); Aspen Thornton 5’6 (soph); Raychael Harjo 6'2 (rfr); Hampton Williams 5'9 (fr); Maleeah Langstaff, 6' (grad)
Power Forward (Stretch 4): Addison Martin 6'1 (rfr); Brooke Jesson 6’0 (Soph);
Low Post: Alexis Babineaux 6'1 (soph); Niyah Johnson 6'2 (soph)
Transfers: Harjo looks like a perfect fit in Julie's system. There's a good chance that she will play a 3 rather than 4. Think of a longer Anna McLeod. I think there will be 1 or 2 more transfers including a point guard.
Outook: While I never count Julie out, ACUs best players are really, really young. Unlike the Southland, most teams in the WAC have one or more players at least 6’3. With the addition of Harjo, we can put a long team on the floor. The players that I will be watching carefully this summer are Nyiah, Addison, Hampton, and Reagan in addition to the transfers. I'll also be watching where Bella plays. If we don't sign a transfer pg, then she will play a lot of minutes there. Watch this space, I'll update frequently.
Outlook 2: (updated May 7) Since the original outlook, we signed three transfers in needed positions. Don’t rule out another transfer if an experienced post player becomes available. Looks like Harjo will play the 4 along with Addy at this point. Not her natural position but Bella could be a scoring machine at the stretch 4. Not only was she a 3* prospect but Zoe started and played a lot of minutes in the Big East last year. All Aspen did was lead the entire Division ll in scoring. Unlike last year’s team, this group appears to be very, very quick on the perimeter.
Everybody reports in June for off-season and camps, takes a couple weeks off in July and then comes back to prepare for two or three games in Portugal the first of August. I am curious about one thing, however. There are 13 on the roster with only Madi running out of eligibility. There are 4 2023 commits and 15 total scholarships. How will they make the numbers add up? Oh well, that’s a ‘23 problem.
