I count 5 Texas schools. And GCU’s win % since beginning of 2016 is 63.5 so they don’t make the list regardless.

Not sure Jackson beats out Daniels for the starting point guard position. Also, think we need another competent ball handler in the lineup besides the PG. We were blessed last year with numerous players who could really handle the ball and score. It will be very interesting to see the combinations coach Tanner puts on the floor.

Interesting quote by Tanner to Optimist: the increased size and length on the outside will allow Tobias Cameron and Cameron Steele to move back to their normal positions. Does that mean Steele won't be part of the inside rotation? Where does that move Tobias--he played as much guard as he did forward last year. And who takes Steele's under the bucket minutes? I see Pleasant, Simmons, Gai and ...(Bettiol, Muoneke at 6'5" is undersized). Who? I like the move to free up Steele but thought he'd still do most of his work in the paint.

Steele is not a low post threat. He is a face up, catch and shoot player. This likely means that he is playing more at the 4, than the 5, with Joe playing the 5.

Yes, Steele is a catch and shoot player and was out of position as a 5 but I wonder if his best position might be at 3. We are still quite short in the post especially if Gai is unable to make a difference and his minutes increase. I just can't see us moving Steele out of the 5 spot until someone emerges as a threat under the basket. Pleasant always had Kohl, so it will be interesting if he plays at 4 or 5 with Simmons or Gai? Muoneke does have an inside game and is a leaper. So, just wondering if he will be worked in as a freshman. I have no idea about Bettiol's skills.
Interesting conversation with the husband of my niece this weekend (he's a schoolboard member for Tomball ISD). He said he watched Muoneke totally dominate Tomball in a game with both an inside and outside game. I never saw him shoot from outside in his HUDL films, so maybe we got more than a dunker there.

Miller is the exact type of walk-on I hope we continue to reach.
It will be interesting to see who plays the floor together between our 3-4-5 players.
I could see Joe and Steele playing together with Joe being the ‘5’ and I could also see Joe and Gai playing together with Joe as more of the ‘4’ though I don’t know how much the spacing and floor would change.
Mix in Simmons and Bettiol and we have options.
I think the 6’5 freshman is tough enough to play down low but may be more of a hybrid like Allen and Tobias were there first couple of years seeing action.

3's are usually very athletic, not just shooters, but also drive to the hoop. That is not Steele's game. He is a 4. Joe will be the main low post presence. Simmons will be used in that manner too from time to time. Gai is much like Steele. He is much more comfortable facing up than playing with his back to the basket. He just happens to be closer to 7'0.
I think when Coach Tanner is saying we are bigger, we are bigger at guard. Miller and Mason were generously listed at their heights. Daniels is below 6' and Ja'Sean is a smallish guard too. Seat, Muoneke and Dibba give us 3 guards with decent size.
The WAC has bigger guards. We were very fortunate that our guards wanted to go to war night in night out. But the majority of those guys are gone. It was time to get bigger and we did

Also Coach Tanner confirmed on the Straight Outta WAC podcast with Kyle and I today that they’re playing in the Vegas Tournament on Nov. 21-23. Wright State and Weber State are the only confirmed teams for now but it’s replacing the Bahamas tournament that they missed out on last year due to COVID

Just FYI for those that hadn't had any news on season tickets this year. I figured some changes would be in play with the new Moody and saw they weren't on sale yet. So far, they had mainly been General Admission. I emailed today for a quick check in and they said season tickets should probably go on sale in August and they are still working on the seating chart. They did say there would be some GA season tickets available but they are moving towards the chart, just like at the stadium.

JV Seat is a big man for a guard. 6'3" 240 is along the same lines as Airion Simmons at 6'5" 264. Hope he can move on defense like Tanner likes.

I met JV, Hunter-Jack and Mo Muoneke before I went on vacation. (Random thought: Do retired guys get vacations?). These are impressive young guys. Took the time to talk with me even even teasing me. We laughed and got to know one another. Can’t say anything about basketball right now but you can be sure I’ll be hanging around practice once classes start.

I went to practice last week and got to talk to Joe Pleasant about returning to ACU.
Here's our story which aired on Wednesday night.
