If you look at the stats, you will think that the Wildcats dominated almost every aspect of this game.
Plays - ACU 90 SFA 64 Total Yards - ACU 527 SFA 397 1st Downs - ACU 30 SFA 21 Based on this, ACU wins by 2 or 3 tds.
However,
Punts - ACU 4 for 18 yard average with 2 blocks. SFA 4 for 47. FG - ACU 1 for 3 with a 50 yard return. SFA 2 for 2.
A disappointing loss, for sure. But no impact on the WAC championship. Playoffs? We’ll need to run the table in the WAC and play well at North Dakota but after tonight, that looks doable. Win the WAC and beat UND and we are in for sure. But all that is 5 games in the future. Need a good win against SUU next week first.

Need a good win against SUU next week first. The other two stats are 12-19 on third down and 2-1 edge in the turnover battle. Another way to look at this game is to pull up the stats after 1 quarter: SFA 23 plays for 157 yards (10-10 passing), 10:02 time of possession. ACU 11 plays for 56 yards (4:58 possession). Trae Self connected on his first 12 passes. Pass #5 was the first time Gibson was targeted. The Lumberjacks came out of the gate, converted at 4th and 1, blocked a punt, and raced to their lead. In my opinion, it wasn't until Golightly took a backward swing pass and converted a 3rd and 9 in the 2nd quarter that the ACU offense seemed to settle into the game. I'm not sure I know when the ACU D made its mark on the game. Our approach has been to focus on ourselves and keep growing in what we do, but these slow starts appear to be the result of game planning. We're facing teams in the WAC that specialize in finding weaknesses (like in special teams) and matchups (like going to Gibson on pass #5 after working through 4 other receivers).

Tough tough loss. I feel for those kids this morning. But I have no doubt they will bounce back and be a better team this week and forward. This game showed that they belong with anyone and hopefully it will give them a confidence boost. Obviously ST needs a fix, it cost us this game, no doubt. Credit to SFA for spotting and exploiting a weakness. We weren’t outcoached, certainly not outplayed and for sure not out classed. I love where we are headed with this young program and if you’d told me that we’d go toe to toe with SFA in Nac at the first of the season I’d be thrilled. I’ll be in Abilene November 19. I think the Cats will ready too.

That’s why we all get to have opinions. Well if you want your opinion to be that a kid being forced to make a play he’s very likely never had to make before being ‘stupid’ then you can still go kick ants. If you’re 325 lbs and you’ve tried to bring down a lightning quick player with time expiring and everyone panicking then I’d be glad to know how you made the form tackle. You must have misread my comment. I never used the word “stupid.” That was your word.

Tone it down, Outsider. This is not the direction we want the forum to go. There was no tone, you were reading into it. I was actually quite mellow in my game review.

I had actually started wondering about our game planning after 5 weeks of this comment by KP and 5 slow starts. I like that we focus on what we can control and how we react to adversity. I question how much time we actually focus on our opponent in preparing for games. I like that we seem to adjust better as the game goes on, but better preparation can help lead to better play sooner,

Not a coach but have watched a lot of football at all levels for many decades. I thought that our play calling and clock management could have been a lot better on our last possession. IMO our objective should have been to get the ball to the 20 yard line and be able to attempt a field goal with the clock stopped. We didn't seemed focused on that as our sole objective. That being said, no team should allow a missed field goal to be returned 55+ yards. Did no one watch Auburn and Alabama?

Dobbins has been playing lights out. Three consecutive 100+ yd games, three TDs in each of the last two games, in addition to the two consecutive offensive player of the week honors for the WAC.

I love seeing this from Jermiah. He looked so good his 1st year, but struggled mightily last season. He is hitting on all cylinders now.

Definitely running like a pro - making yards when there are no holes and powering his way through tacklers. I think the tough loss Saturday night will make this team better for the rest of the season.

Someone please tell me again why the SFA-Sam Houston game does not count as a conference game but ours vs Sam Houston does--or does it not count either?

According to the WAC website. They list Sam Houston as a WAC member, but show their WAC record as 0-0. We are 2-0, SFA is 1-0 Tarleton St is 1-1, Southern Utah is 1-2 and Utah St is 0-2 in the WAC.
