The game of football can usually be broken down to 3 or 4 plays a game. To blame this on the defense would be an absurd statement to me. This season as a whole this team relied on the defense weekly. Coach Cassidy did a hell of a job this season and still held a good SFA team to 24 points. Offensively there was some disappointment with multiple 3 and outs in a row and not putting ourselves in a winning position. Sure defensively there were some busts and bad plays but including all of that and still holding SFA to 24 points in not something to blame. Keep in mind too the red zone defense was great and we had multiple forced FG and turnover on downs inside the 50. To come out 7-4 in the first season under Patterson is great. Disappointed in the end but looking at eligibility we have almost the entire team returning. The ceiling is very high with these kids.

Because we didn’t have a 20 point lead with 6 minutes left. We lost a lead late so we lose a game. That’s not choking that’s losing. If we were losing by 20 in the fourth quarter and came back to win you would say the other team choked and ACU didn’t deserve to win. There’s just no balance to your comments on games. You comment as if ACU is the only team that is playing the game and the competition is a computer.
We got outplayed in a number of areas today. The defense played bend don’t break for much of the game. The offense made some big plays but did not sustain drives or and didn’t win the time of possession battle because we couldn’t run on them.
Self made a great play. We lost. Other teams play sports with the intention of winning as well.

The defense choked because they had actually held SFA to 16 points before that and yes, the defense had at least 2 of those 3-4 key plays that lost the game.

Would not disagree with that, but that isn't what lost the game. Although I agree that the lack of sustaining drives contributed.

This is where the old saying that defense wins championships holds true. Even going back to games like Chadron. You can have KILLER offenses, but it's the defense, when it counts, that counts. We had a really good season but we didn't have a play-off caliber team. That showed today.

We had a really good season but we didn't have a play-off caliber team. That showed today. We had a team that played with an sec school, and lost to two teams by a combined 9 points. We were a very capable team and also a playoff caliber team. We just will have to disagree there.

A play-off caliber team would have won the 2nd game because it would have learned how to beat them, especially a team like SFA which is dangerous but had a pretty bad season overall. NE MO is a perfect example of that in our DII days.

This years program would beat last year by 30. SFA is a good program, they know how to win. Look at the uca game, SFA didn’t even play a majority of their starters the whole game. They weren’t ranked a majority of the year with their record for no reason. A playoff caliber team is what ACU was this year, I think looking at a majority of the weeks chat threads everyone agrees but this loss is leaving a sour taste for y’all.

Just to throw some stats out there. (All of these stats will be excluding any games against non D1 opponents)
SFA Offense: averages 28.3 points per game (Our defense held them to 4 points less than their season average) SFA Defesne: Averaged 35.4 points given up per game (They gave up 14 points less today than their season average)
ACU Offense: Averages 28.3 points per games (We scored 7 points less than average) ACU Defense: Averaged 23.9 points per game (We gave up just 1 more point than our season average)
These are the season statistics. Our defense performed exactly where statistical averages would expect them to. Our offense scored just 21 points against a defense that was ranked 88th (bottom 30%) in the FCS.
Saying the defense choked is ridiculous.

SFA lost their ranking for a good reason. We didn't have any ranked wins and had an ok SOS, which is why we weren't ranked. No, ACU was NOT a playoff caliber team. We made some really great strides from the last few years and we had a good season but today's play is proof of the limits of our growth. We didn't make that big of leap in one season but we had a good season.

The offense under performed. Defense did exactly as would be expected of them based on their seasons statistics. But you have your prerogative and it’s a hill you’re willing to die on even when presented with factual evidence.

We didn't make that big of leap in one season but we had a good season. North Dakota is currently ranked 16 and we were 1 play from beating them (a bad chop block call). SFA had been ranked all year, a couple missed field goals away from beating them twice. Missouri is an sec school - take away a punt return and a dropped td and a bad 4&1 call and we could have won that game. Offensively we left a lot to be desired I will agree, but I still think we are a playoff caliber team that just had a couple plays not go our way.

The offense underperformed, but pretty much in line with its statistical average. The defense performed around it's statistical average but lost a key couple of plays that KP talks about in pretty much every press conference. You have your own hill you want to die on.
