Speaking of kickers, last year we had a very good kicker (went to transfer portal and signed by TA&M) who went into an early slump and never recovered. Having several quality kickers is essential at this level. Having a transfer with experience while the freshmen perfect their skills should yield long term success for the Cats. The competition will only make them all better. May the best man win.

I'm really excited to see this edition of the Cats take the field. I think Patterson has really enhanced the quality and depth of our team. Some players I'm really excited about include: Vaughn and Wilhoit at LB (both are 6'3" 240); Massey, Butler and Herpin at DT; Mukes at CB; Jones and Boykins at WR (as well as several freshmen); Quadye Hawkins at QB (we had several runners but this guy can pass); and then the kicking competition--I'd love to see Barr come out on top although a RS and having him 3 years after the UH guy graduates would be good too. We've added depth at every position and some will probably break into the starting lineup or at least get quality time on the field. Who do you guys see as immediate contributors?

Stafford is a FB/TE. Reese Young is the LB. Thanks. Was confused. I should have known that. Know that Reese Young is an LB.

WR Waydale Jones started his career at Wake Forest. His Freshman season, he had 5 catches for 41 yards. He then transferred to Texas St, where injuries have derailed his career. He has only played in 1 game in the past 3 seasons. Jones played at Beeville. Was a stud there.

I have to think that a lot of the classifications listed are incorrect. For example, it also says Reese Young, who played as a true freshman linebacker last year, is listed at a junior. As his dad, I guess this just has to do with the dual credit hours he brought with him from HS that make him academically a Junior.

I hope the high ranking for transfers pays off in conference wins.
