The truth is that the days of regional conferences are pretty much dead. That has been the case with the P5 for a long time, and had been growing amongst the G5 as well. Now it has trickled down to other mid-major conferences and is beginning to take effect on DII and DIII conferences. Media rights deals didn't care about regions. Schools needed to grow to keep up, as well as get away from schools/conferences that were making that harder. Also, being in a conference where we don't always dominate is a good thing as it pushes us to always improve. Competition breeds excellence if we let it and nurture it.

First of all, it is premature to write off this year. Baseball is looking better all the time. The men's T&F team should make a run at the top-3 and possible even the title. Tennis is strong again this year. A lot can change with the Cup standings this year. No doubt basketball for both the men and women was disappointing. I think that will change in the next few years. Do I wish we had more teams in the conference that are within a reasonable driving distance. Of course. Do I wish that the other sports besides FB and m/w basketball were better funded? Of course, since my favorite sport, T&F, is the sport most effected by this. But, I do think the funding will eventually get there for all sports. I certainly don't mind that we are NOT in the same conference with schools like Lamar, McNeese, and Nicholls. Well said, Amen.
