Yes. There is a scrimmage on Saturday. Also a volleyball game. VB at 2 and scrimmage at 7.

The TE review sounded much like the RB review. Was this done face to face with coach Danzey or were the questions predetermined and emailed for a response. Again, for a position that's so deep, I expected more. I guess Colt Cooper was not doing enough to be mentioned. Again...curious. I'd go with the latter especially when you're office is down to one individual writing close to all the web site content.

Our next position report is our Wide Receivers. This could be the most important group in determining our success this year. I'm hoping we can stretch the field, hit more big pass plays and just be a much more efficient and powerful offense this year. I hope some of the guys that we thought would be important players at WR this year get some reps this Saturday. (I'm talking about M. Jones, W. Jones, and Boykins and yes, I realize these guys have had little playing time since their HS years). So far we've heard about 2 converted QB's playing receiver (Graham and Moffett) who looked good. Another was freshman walk on Ceyanes. We know what we have in Golightly and Taylor but we need some "explosion". If I read correctly our starters (or #1's) in the 1st scrimmage were Golightly and two seldom used receivers from last year (T. Williams, 6 games played -0- catches and McCasland, 7 games played on special teams -0- catches). I'm guessing this was because the other receivers were held out because of injury or other. This does not thrill me or raise my confidence in what we might put on the field at this position. I thought, on paper, this would be a strong group. I still think it can be, so I am very anxious to hear coach Thrash's review. We have 13 WR's on the roster not counting Hut Graham. Should be a strength.

OK, receivers review is out and coach Thrash sounded excited. We have speed and explosiveness. Hut Graham sounds like the real deal. Can he take Kobe Clark's spot? I like that we have some tall receivers (Golightly, Taylor, W. Jones) who should be on the field alot. If some of the new guys furnish the speed we've been missing (M. Jones, W. Jones, H. Graham) then we ought to be able to move the ball down the field. The 4 positions reviewed so far all seen to be loaded. 5 RB's, 5-7 TE's, 10-12 OL and and 10 WR's. If our QB candidates are better we may be looking at a return to our powerful offense of by gone years. Can't wait.

Really enjoyed the receivers preview -- Coach Thrash has always been a coach who gets excited about his players AND gets others excited about them as well. It is exciting to see him talk about how he has confidence to ALL of the top 10 receivers and he names those receivers.
Last Saturday, the reviews of the scrimmage were terrific. Certainly hoping that some of the CatChat faithful are on hand once again to fill us in.

Jacoby Boykins was a notable receiver left out of the WR preview article. Is he a developmental project? The coach mentioned nine receivers; maybe, he's the 10th one. He looked great in his Alabama practice/scrimmage highlight video, but I guess everyone looks great in highlight videos.

Scrimmage was really strong for the defense. we have a fine secondary. But to be fair, I must add, no pass inference was being called, and there was a lot of it going on. And I did like Dobbins and Wishert carrying the ball. I don't like as many long sideline passes from the opposite hash mark -- very low probability and hard to be on target.

I agree with lynxferus about Boykins. Maybe he is a project. There were 4 other WR's not mentioned. Luke Moffitt, a conversion from QB, JR Ceyanes, a fr walkon from Katy, Harrison Foster, a RS Fr from Sweetwater, and Louis Williams a fr. from Conroe. Of these Moffitt and Ceyanes were said to have looked good at the 1st scrimmage

Wow! I thought scrimmage was at 7 pm. Rc says we have a fine secondary. Coach Thrash says we have some of the bedt DB's in the nation. Liking how this sounds. Any other insights? How'd the LB's look dry?

So, I guess the scrimmage today was not open to the general public. Hopefully, some insiders were allowed to attend and might be able to give us some insight into the scrimmage.

Trying to step around the wet Coo-Aid on the ground, there are a few things that stood out. I did not see those loose mistakes like the defense jumping off-sides and only a few times were blitzes not picked up. But our recievers did not seem to have the hands of prior stand-outs like Kobe Clark. We dropped several passes Kobe would have caught. I had hoped this year's offense would have more over the middle mid-distance passes but most were (a) underneath crosses, side outs, or all to often just long bombs with lower chances. The arms looked strong and Maverick has clearly gotten smoother and maybe even stronger. We have a very big front line on offense but our defense looked good, often pressuring the throws or rushing them. Overhearing some comments seemed to agree that up until now the offense had been dominant but today the defense showed up and won the day. I may turn out to really like the 3-3-5 defense because it can shift as needed to create problems for an offense.

I would be drinking the purple koolaid, too, but they still don't distribute to Virginia.
