Although I'm generally a fan of locking a thread from a previous game, I think it is a little quick for the UIW game. My opinion only. So, I'll ask this question since it concerns Egbo, Jr not being able to play the 1st half vs. UCA. Has there been an official challenge to the targeting call to the powers that be? If there has been, then the coaching staff (who should know more about these things than we fans) thinks it was not targeting. If there has been no challenge, then our coaches believe there is enough evidence to go along with the call. How will this affect our game planning for UCA? My belief still is that our lack of a pass rush is causing most of our defensive problems, including letting a QB run loose for big gains or at a minimum, keeping the ball on option plays for a 1st down. In my heart I think we need to be more creative on offense but my head says that we need to be more consistent on on basic plays and not keep on making foolish calls (running into the teeth of a defense on 3rd and long) and foolish plays (missing wide open receivers, catching the ball, penalties, etc.). As we get into the meat of our schedule (starting Saturday) we need to be a much more smoothly running machine. The rust for coaches and players should be over. Go get 'em Cats.

I believe if the ejection occurs in the first half and they sit out the second half, then that is all they have to miss. If the ejection occurs in the second half, then they have to miss the first half of the next game. Hopefully, this means that Egbo will be starting at UCA.

While losing to UIW was disappointing, it is unlikely on its own to lower our chances of making the playoffs. It's hard to see an at large team from the UAC so to get to the playoffs means winning the conference championship. (It will, however, be interesting to see what happens if two teams finish with the same record but did not play each other).
But this week against Central Arkansas is altogether different. This is a must win game to get on the playoff track. The Bears played well against OKST in their opener before losing by two touchdowns; shredded hapless Texas College; and got a beat down from NDST. While that game looked somewhat close, it was never in doubt. The Bears scored 2 TDs in the last 6 minutes of the 4th quarter to make the score more respectable.
ShunDerrick Powell who transferred to UCA from Northern Alabama had 231 yards against the Bison including a 71yd run in the 2nd quarter. He is surely the best RB we've faced and he must be contained for us to win. BTW, he is pretty much all of their running game.
Several players on defensive got preseason honors. 3 sacks against NDSU stood out to me. But they haven't really stopped anybody yet. To be fair, their 2 losses were to a Big12 team and the #2 team in the FCS.
Definitely a good matchup. We'll see what the Cats are made of this week.

Hopefully UCA is a little beat up from Fargo...

I agree this is a must win game. We need to beat teams in games that could go either way. I think we can beat any team in the conference or lose to any team in the conference. There is not as much separation between teams in the conference as there usually is. Massey has all nine UAC teams rated between #19 and #59.

Don't think you can appeal targeting in the 1st half-
In games that have instant replay, when a targeting foul occurs in the second half, the carryover penalty (of sitting out the first half of that player's next game) will be eligible for further appeal.
The process will begin with a conference submitting a request to the NCAA national coordinator of officials, who would review video of the play. If it is obvious that a player was incorrectly penalized for targeting, the call would be overturned, and the player would be cleared to play in the first half of the next game.

I’ll have to watch the game on tv - getting that close to Searcy would give me the heebie jeebies.

The Bears offense looks the same as ever: great ground game, throwing the ball to RBs and short throws, plus shot plays.
Their pass rush is every bit as good as UIWs. They make in-game adjustments.
But they are coming off a physically draining loss to NDST. Outside of one or two big plays, the Bison had them contained.
The Bears also made a lot of mistakes. I don’t expect they will be as generous at home.
It’s time to show we can win a game like this. The offense will need to get on track.

I have to moderate my enthusiasm for the team after the let-down against ICW. Yes, I will be watching and cheering for our Wildcats, but I don't want to get too far out on a limb on this game. It will take a much-improved approach and performance than the game against the Cardinals. We have to keep the petal to the metal all the way to the end of the game rather than wither at the end. I know we have the personnel and the system to beat UCA, now we must step up and prove it. I want our Wildcats to roar.

Looks like a good place to eat in Conway is the Verona Italian Rest. at 190 Skyline Dr. Plan to get there about 4:00 as the game starts at 6:00. Hope that we have a decent crowd dressed in purple. Not expecting much given the location and where our players are from. Would love to be wrong about that. Also would love to see us get a win at UCA. Probably a must win if we are to have any chance to improve on last year's record and/or make the playoffs. I don't think that I have ever seen one there. Was glad to hear that the team was flying up there rather than taking buses. Would be a really long ride home. Guess that this game and the one in Utah will probably be the only ones where that happens. Wonder if there is an airport in Conway.

This will be a tough game for ACU. Newbies on the board don't necessarily know that the former ACU HC is the offensive coordinator at UCA (there was not mention in the game preview on ACUsports.com). Coach Collums has always been able to get the most out of UCA's offense against ACU.
We won't know who will be on the field until the game gets underway. I looked at the participation report from the UIW game and there were many names that could have helped the team: Reese Young, Rovaughn Banks, Xavier Wishert, Quayde Hawkins (when Maverick was obviously struggling with his placement, it would seem that the backup would be given a look), Chidi Lebechi (blocked a kick the weekend before and did not see the field the following week); OL Joziah Fogle (the starting 5 played the entire game); Damion Hart; Luke Gambs, Chris Herpin, to name a few.
So, can ACU step up in this must-win game? I just don't know that ACU can pull this one out. I might guess something like 28-20 (2 field goals for ACU) in the favor of UCA.
On a much lighter note, if you are in town for breakfast, Dallasalum, there is a local breakfast place in Conway called Stoby's. I was working a conference track meet in Conway several years ago and met there with a buddy of mine who was a minister near Conway. The breakfast I had at Stoby's was fantastic. It is not a big place, so it might be tough to get in there on game day.
