Dibba has hit the portal. Makes sense as to why he was in street clothes and on the bench the last two nights. He didn't look or act hurt.

Makes you wonder if he feels like he can compete at a higher level and wants the chance or if he was unhappy with something in the ACU program. If it is the former, more power to him. If it is the latter, that concerns me.

Ugh. ACU's most offensively efficient player this year. I think he might think he can get some NIL money elsewhere.

Muo Muoneke into the portal. Not surprised at this at all. Probably the most athletic player on the team, but undersized without a true position here.

Interesting. Aren't both our freshmen recruits 6'5" the same as Mo. Does he not have G/F skills the same as they do. If Mo just has post or paint skills, why do we list him as a guard on the roster? I do agree he is a player w/o a position and is tremendously athletic. I just don't want our two skilled freshman to get lost in the same "no position" shuffel as Mo and also Cam Steele.

I would not put Steele in the same conversation with Muo. Muo has no outside shot at all. I think when we signed him 2 years ago, the hope was he would develop and outside game, but that never happened. But unlike Simmons, he did not have the bulk to play inside either.
Steele is a solid stretch-4. I think it took the staff a few years to realize he wasn't a true Center and didn't want to be one. Hence getting 2 big men this year in Hill and Igiehon.
Both Alston and Williams (incoming Freshmen) have more upside than Muo does. Could one of them be an undersized 4; yes, possibly. Might it fail, sure. But the hope is they will play the wing next year and do well

Currently there are 4 open roster spots on the team, not counting Madden or Steele

We had an average year so I'm not crushed by all of the names entering the portal. I would prefer more allegiance to the school but those days in college athletics are probably over.

Is this wholesale defection or wholesale clearing of the roster by the coaching staff?

When it comes to Seat and Muo, I fully expected them to move on. Neither received much playing and can do more somewhere else. McClain is a bit surprising, in that he started almost every game. Not many D1 schools looking for a 5'9 guard that didn't average 7 points per game. When it comes to Dibba, I think this gives him the opportunity to see if he can go be at a P5 school. He is immensely talented, but he is not much of an outsider shooter.
To me, this is no more than the new way of college sports. Some guys that don't play much will go elsewhere. And the solid players at smaller schools will look to see if they can get looks from bigger programs.
Could it be more than that, sure. But I don't think any of us will be able to truly know that.
