More accurately "a few faxes from difference makers." That sounds exciting.

More accurately "a few faxes from difference makers." That sounds exciting. Whitley WR from Cisco. Big boy. 6'2" 210 Griffin from Cisco. Listed at corner but highlights show him as a hard tackling strong safety. 6'1" 180. Perfect. Will be be announced once SLC gives blessing, I assume. Are there others? sure makes the 2015 class look better.

Both guys were offered by Tulsa before signing with FSU and the Cats. Fresno's transfer has a bit of an advantage because he enrolled at mid term, went through spring practice with them and has been in summer workouts in Cali.

OK, are we set as a team? We got a receiver that may be a difference maker. We got a safety/CB that could be a difference maker. Where are we still in need? Seems like, if this team can stay healthy, we've got a product that can be very, very competitive. We've had JUCO kids that didn't pan out but we've also had a few that did (can you say Bernard Scott or Johnny Knox?) Not comparing the 3 JUCO's we're getting with them but Olie, Whitney, and Griffin look like keepers to me. An experienced OL would help but we do have numbers there and already have a good one coming in next year (Moe Ngungutau). What think ye?

We lost an experienced starter from our weakest position group. We signed two transfers--Dale was the other--who we hope can help us right away. We also signed one hs guy that may be able to contribute this fall. How good our product is this fall, depends on how much we develop in the defensive backfield. I am cautiously optimistic between returning vets we hope step up and the ability of newcomers. OL-we are down to only two returning starters and two more guys who have seen the field (Wall and Hisler). Some good younger talent here among freshmen and rs freshmen. A more experienced transfer might help, but I agree...no need to panic. We will be ok here. Still, the loss of Mayfield was a setback. After watching them in the spring, I was very impressed by how well they were playing as a unit. Putting a new guy in the mix changes the dynamic a bit...but hopefully won't be a major setback. WR-I look for great things from Gilbert and Epps this fall. Some good incoming talent here, too...and our new juco should be closer to being ready to contribute than incoming freshmen. I like his size and speed. I also like Sadler, an incoming freshman.

Sounds like we signed Jabari Butler yesterday. Butler is a 5'11, 165 CB from Bishop Gorman HS. He had offers from most notably Wyoming. Not sure if this is a walk-on or if he is a scholarship guy.

Nice. Seemed like a solid player to me. I would have to think he is scholarship. Very well could be Terry Ausborne's scholarship.
Will be interesting to see if Griffin (the DB from Cisco JC) plays safety, and Dale (from Purdue) and now Butler play CB.
With the added depth now at DB, I think that leaves Epps free to focus on offense only (if he wasn't already doing so).

A Rivals 3 Star CB who played for the number one high school team in the nation last year. Offers from Rice and Tulane in addition to Wyoming. My guess is he didn't have a qualifying test score earlier in the year and could not sign. When he qualified the other scholarships were gone, which left us an opening. My hunch is he is definitely on scholarship. That's conjecture, but that is what happened to Junior Olie. He had several big time offers but by the time he qualified, the schollys had been used and he wound up at a juco even though he was a D1 qualifier late. I dunno though...but whatever the reason, I am thrilled we signed him! It's a good day to be a Wildcat. fwiw, Fresno State signed one of Jabari's team mates, a fellow DB. They may wind up playing against each other in a couple of months. sports.yahoo.com/ccc/football/recruiting/player-Jabari-Butler-154974

Wow!!! With the addition of Dale, Griffin and Butler we may have turned a weakness into a strength. Add these to Mack, Barnett, Howard, Bryant, Baker, Arnold, Walker, and some of the Freshman recruits and we look potent on paper. And it is always good to point out that a holdover like Lynn Grady who has played safety before might be a key ingredient in making these guys gel. We also have the chance to have a potent wide receiver corp with Whitney, Epps, Stone, Gilbert, Green-Avery, Hudson, Lide and Sadler. If our QB can have time to chunk it, we'll be OK. OL and how our defense progresses will be the key. We are strong at QB, DL and LB (young but strong). Lots of numbers at OL but not much experience. Have we heard if Funk will get an extra year yet? If so, next year will be exciting too. Our progression from D2 to D1 seems to be on target. Two more recruiting classes that address needs and establish depth and we may just have something for the SLC to take notice of.
