Toughest schedule in the Southland! " In 2014, ACU’s strength of schedule (SOS) ranking, according to college sports statistics website warrennolan.com, was 200th out of the 301 teams in Division I. In 2015, that number shot up to 114th. In other words, this year’s schedule was almost twice as tough as last year’s. (Incidentally, ACU’s SOS is the highest of any team in the Southland Conference.)" Also, this-" On Monday, April 6, Bonneau hornswaggled the Horned Frogs of TCU to come to Crutcher Scott Field. At the time, they were the No. 2 team in the nation. Think about that for a second. That would be like the Duke University men’s basketball team coming to Moody Coliseum or the University of Alabama football team showing up at Shotwell Stadium. In perhaps the most high-profile game ever played on campus, ACU took a 3-2 lead on TCU into the 7th before falling, 4-3." blogs.acu.edu/acutoday/2015/05/30/silver-lining-baseball-season-ends-on-hi-note/?utm_source=myACU+News&utm_campaign=168c848285-Communication_Compass_FS_6_5_2015&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_4ad6e94749-168c848285-28378521

Great perspective on where we are at in athletics. One thing that I am really hoping for is to get the non-ACU crowd in Abilene to realize what we are doing now in athletics and appreciate the level of competition. I think in the past, the casual sports fan in Abilene saw the three local universities as all belonging to "some lesser division", without really distinguishing between D2, D3, NAIA, etc. But competing against major D1 schools will hopefully more clearly show the difference. I occasionally ran in to local people at ACU football games last year that didn't have any ACU ties, or even knew much about is. Hopefully this trend continues.

In addition to playing P5 schools in other sports, I think SFA and SHSU will draw big football crowds thanks to their name recognition.

From Brandon Stover--4 signees for 2016 One of those commits is Cole Solomon (Twitter @cole_solomon) catcher from Coppell High School. Coach Bonneau has family in Coppell, so that can't hurt in recruiting Coppell athletes.

I had heard that a local Abilene Wylie kid also was offered and gave a verbal. Anyone know more details?

5 JC signees announced today. One looks like a really good one, Wilks from KSTATE and McClennan. Maybe the others will surprise. We need to start turning this program around. These 5 plus the 4 freshmen ought to be a good start.

Braxton Wilks is a huge addition to this team, both for his baseball potential and for the long history that his family has with ACU. He also had an excellent summer up in the Alaska Baseball League, where he was all league as a starting pitcher.

2016 Baseball Cats took another loss tonight to McNeese St. That's lot of losses in a row. After a sweep of Nichols we lost 5 straight SLC games and haven't even gotten to Sam yet. Looks like another discouraging season ahead. Any bright spots to focus on besides the field.

Looks like another discouraging season ahead. Any bright spots to focus on besides the field. Lets not forget we started 5 freshmen. We are building. Takes patience. Why be discouraged? This is baseball. Along with a losing streak will come a winning streak. They will get there.

I'm discouraged because we've been starting multiple freshman the past 3 seasons and then the majority of them end up leaving after the season is over.

The majority? I don't follow baseball as closely as I once did, what do you attribute this to? Is it the Joe Golding effect? Looks like he's finally got a team he's sticking to.

If it IS the majority then yes that can be discouraging. Why are they leaving? I know nothing about what goes on with the baseball program and the recruiting/team-building strategies they are taking but this simple research proves me point. 2014 Freshman: 6/14 Taylor Waters - started 14 games freshman year Brandon Grudzielanek - started 51 games freshman year Aaron Draper Russel Crippen Gunnar Buhner - started 49 games freshman year Connor Messman - starter 23 games freshman year Chris Altimont Scott Kinzler - pitched in 3 games freshman year Cameron SterneAustin Lambright Brandon Lambright Gabe Sager - pitched in 4 games freshman year Mack MorganLevi Broeske2015 Freshman:1/9 Marcelle Carter - started 38 games freshman year Cody Huson - started 8 games freshman year Jeff Clarke - started 18 games freshman year Brayden Gomez - started 33 games freshman year Joshua ThompsonDrew HansonTaylor Fajardo - started 10 games freshman year Sam EtterGarrett Hale - started 4 games freshman year
