2 runners thrown out at home, 1 runner thrown out at 3rd. Blow up in 9th.

It is unbelievable how we can consistently blow ball games. Bottom of the 9th with a 2-run lead and lose---again. Good effort by Mason after giving up a 3-run HR in the 1st but to no avail. 3 more games before this season is in the books. Lots of improvement needed, at almost every position.

I have had a really hard time being a fan of our baseball team. They just seem to be running in place since we went to D1. Last year we couldn't pitch and this year we can't hit.

We are now touting our great schedule; 17 games vs. tournament teams. No comment on our record vs those teams (1-16).

Sorry that my comment on twitter caused so much heartburn. How dare I suggest that we need to win more games and that 1-16 vs tournament teams is nothing to be proud of. I bleed purple as much as anyone and have followed our baseball program since 1966. I grieved when the program was dropped and was enthused when it was started up again under the leadership of Bill Gilbreath. I've closely followed the Cats during the Bonneau era and cheered when he decided to stay at ACU after a flirtation with Sam Houston. But the non progress of this program over the past 6-8 years has me crying. What's happening? Is it the players? Is it the coaching? Something needs to change. Bringing in the fences didn't help this year. A new synthetic turf didn't bring wins. Maybe this is a sport that just takes time to build. But as we see nearly every other sport make tremendous strides, baseball is sticking out like a sore thumb. Again, sorry I ruffled feathers but would like to be successful on the baseball field too.

How did I miss this? I just looked on Twitter and did not find anything.
There is no doubt that the baseball team has been disappointing this year. I guess I had hoped that this year might be a turning point, but that improvement did not materialize. The ongoing turnover on the team has been disappointing as well. However, I do think that is the nature of the game in college baseball. Why would that be? First of all, a player can transfer to a school and be automatically eligible - which is true of all sports but the revenue sports. If a player's goal is 100% about making it to the pros, that can also effect their desire to transfer. MLB can sign draft and sign players at multiple times in their career - for instance, they can draft a kid straight out of HS (a frequent occurrence). If a kid goes to a 4-year school, however, they cannot be drafted until after their 3rd year at the school. If after one year at 4-year school, though, the kid can transfer to a JC and be eligible after they finish their JC eligibility. Virtually all of the kids who transferred after their freshman year at ACU went to JC's - in hopes, no doubt, of drawing interest in the MLB draft.
I do believe that the current staff will be given another year or two to turn things around - until this year's impressive group of signees proves whether they are capable of getting the job done. Also, the signing class during the early signing period this year was heavy on HS kids as well.

Baseball is also a sport where being a private school hurts. Britt has to spread 11 or so scholarships among 25 players. Clearly the publics can get more bang for their buck.

Are we offering the maximum number of D1 scholarships in any sport? Or are there plans for us to reach the maximum in sports in addition to football by 2017 when we become fully eligible? Some of the totals posted in another thread suggest we aren't at the limit in many sports, except possibly men's tennis (4.5). Here are the NCAA numbers if you are interested: www.scholarshipstats.com/ncaalimits.html

I know M/W basketball are giving 12/13 and 12/15 respectively. I heard from a very good source that FB will be at 61.5/63 in the fall. Both soccer and softball are very close but I don't know the numbers - Casey and Bobby recruit to academics as well as athletics. It is rumored that Britt gives the max because he raises his own money.
Except basketball, everything is hearsay. But could be close. I am thinking that Soccer, Softball, and Volleyball are close to the limit because of Title IV.

Football will be giving 60.5 next year - the only sport at ACU to see an increase of scholarships this year. I think that is as it should be - the move to D-I was first and foremost to give us a higher profile and it should be the first sport to get to the NCAA max. Both tennis and golf are blessed to have considerable endowment help in providing scholarship money for their sport. The sport I love the most, track and field, has been the worst, BY A LONG WAYS, in raising scholarship endowment money to help support the program. Soccer has very little scholarship endowment money, but they are also very new to the campus, in relative terms.

We all want to win, just approach things in different ways. For the near future (can't see much more than that) bogeyman will be more careful in his social media "observations).
