60.5. Thanks for correcting that, TF. My memory isn't all that good sometimes.

Baseball is also a sport where being a private school hurts. Britt has to spread 11 or so scholarships among 25 players. Clearly the publics can get more bang for their buck. Some pretty good programs are located at private U's around the country with those same limitations. Rice and TCU in Texas. Our sister school Pepperdine has had some outstanding teams. Even Lipscomb has managed a regional bid or two. We have struggled the past three years and due to attrition there isn't much hope looking ahead. We seem to start over every year.

And hey, don't forget DBU. But like Pepperdine and some of the others, those schools don't have football so there's more money to toss about. I remember Pepperdine having some lean years, but I think the program's refusal to add transfers the past few seasons has definitely helped in some areas, perhaps clubhouse chemistry. Anyone else think ACU should / can adopt a similar strategy?

A few tidbits about the super regionals this year. 16 teams--3 from Texas (Texas Tech, Texas A&M, TCU): 3 from South Carolina (East Carolina, Coastal Carolina, USC): and 3 from Florida (U of Florida, Florida State and Miami). Five teams from the SEC made it; three from the Big 12 made it and 3 from the ACC made it. One FCS team made it--Coastal Carolina. And yes--5 teams that ACU played during the year won their regional-Arizona, TCU. Okie State, Texas A&M and Texas Tech.
Also, I went back to look at our stats that are posted on our website--one conclusion that I came to was that in most years that we had big win seasons, we also had home run power. This years team hit 9 HRs all season. We had several years where we hit 40+ HRs and one season in the 60's. It takes a lot of singles to do what one HR can do.

Well and not even that, just being able to drive the ball in the gap or down the line. Extra-base hits and move runners from 1st to 3rd etc.

You got it. Great bunch of guys. High integrity coaching staff. Lots of players from small town America. Few JC transfers. Lots of power, good fielder's and a sparkplug in Marks. Two very good pitchers in Cunningham and Beckwith and a bulldog in Morrison. Gilmore said before this year began that this was a special group. Waddell and Young were hometown guys (Georgetown and Conway). Great win for the little guys. How's that?

Really tired this evening. Drove from MB to Montgomery AL, taking the back way thru Georgia and AL to avoid Atlanta at rush hour. Could only check CCU on my phone every once in a while. Such a big win for this program. Saw several games this year (several profs from CCU at church). Really impressed with the talent Gilmore put on the field but also the character of the players. One thing lost in the TV coverage I saw was that CCU'S 2nd baseman, Seth Lancaster, had been possibly their best hitter in the playoffs (.327 during the year) was lost during the LSU series and that starting 1st baseman Chadwick moved to that position, having never played 2nd before. That opened the door for sub Waddell (a great defensive player) to get all the time at 1st base. He made numerous great plays that could have been the difference in several games. I will say that I questioned how Coach Gilmore used his pitching staff but in the end he looked like a genius. Thank goodness for the rain out and another day of rest for Beckwith and Cunningham. I couldn't be happier for Gilmore and this group of guys and CCU. I long for the day that ACU can experience this kind of thrill in any sport. It can be done. CCU just proved it.

I was beginning to wonder if the video I put up on page 2 of this thread had offended you to the point where you decided to take a vacation. Believe me, it was typed in jest and intended to put a smile on your face. Oddball reminds me and people who really know me so much of myself (I try to find a silver lining in every dark cloud that blows over)and somehow you have developed a slight reputation as being a little negative (see Moriarity). Truth is, you're a valued member of this board and you have the cahones to speak your mind no matter what any thin-skinned employee of ACU or player for ACU thinks. I prefer to call any negativity on this board by any fanatic (fan)posting here "constructive criticism". What problems haven't been improved upon or solved without it? Last time I looked, (and I look all the time) under Cat Chat on the top of this page, nowhere under it have I seen Sunshine Blowers Association with the motto "We blow sunshine where none exists". It was made perfectly clear to Oscar and some of the founding members of Cat Chat that ACU IN NO WAY, SHAPE, OR FORM endorsed this board when Oscar was asked to remove the official Wildcat logo. Hey, suffer the consequences or endorse us, Lee. (We know you weren't here when this occurred). I speak for myself when I say "I can blow smoke and sunshine with the best of them".
I said thin-skinned employees and players of ACU (the baseball team in particular) because from what I've heard from more than one person is that Bogeyman has caught a lot of grief over comments made about the baseball team. I'm not a big baseball fan, but let me be the second to say "Hey, you guys sucked this year". There's no blowing sunshine in that matter, facts are facts. Now, instead of being thin-skinned and a wuss, grow a set and turn that comment around and use it as motivation to say "Hey, wait til' next year, I'll show those turds Bogeyman and Catdad what I'm REALLY made of !!!" period.......end of story.

That is sad news. It looks like he was still really young. Was he ill, or was this unexpected?
