thanks kabrothwr88. Thats really nice of you. We are enjoying being back in the SLC and are pleased the support of the older member schools. You have made us feel right at home. The competition is great and we are pleasantly surprised by our success in various sports. Best wishes to the Cardinals.

Thanks. It gets frustrating at times. They still listed one of our guys as a hard commit to New Mexico late in the day. And since their link to our (9) actually 20 commits didn't work it was hard to know who they were actually counting.

Saw this on acusports.com. Collums and his staff will continue to look for another CB, defensive lineman as well as the best player available regardless of position this spring

Just replying back to trackfans post with his quick summary in signings....I think Josh Fink is the most natural and smooth receiver in this group. Who's to say how they all develop but he looks to me like a gifted WR.

Collums also said that Cohea may play RB. That would certainly help our depth issue there.

Their final rankings now show Etuk as an ACU signee. did you press the down key at the far right? That will show 6 of the 10 they counted. Also, you can search our recruits by name and 247...for example, Anietie Etuk 247 sports...and find out who else they have in there system.

Lamar fan here. I just wanted to let you guys know that I have been working with a guy from 247 to have profiles updated with commits and such so there is a more accurate representation of what the SLC looks like as a whole. He was kind enough to create profiles for Lamar for players that didn't have them already...not sure if he'll want to do that for all schools but I will at least he getting him names of all players who signed and have profile on their site. I did want to say that I let him know a while back of the issue with ACU not being linked as well as HBU and UIW. He was actually already aware of it and has sent numerous requests to have it fixed. Congrats on a great recruiting effort this year. 247 puts you near the top of the national rankings and leading the SLC by a hefty margin. It will be interesting to see how recruiting success translates to W's and L's in a couple of years. Since so many conference teams are tightly grouped in the rankings, I suspect on-the-field success will depend more than ever on player development--player motivation, coaching and strength and conditioning--as well as which school found the "diamonds in the rough" that aren't in the recruiting services data bases for a variety of reasons

Interesting tidbit in the recruiting wars: I see that JC Chalk, from Argyle HS signed with Clemson. Chalk is the son of ACU alum John and Jackie Chalk, the grandson of Gene Stallings (for your newbies, Stallings had all 4 of his daughters attend ACU and marry ACU alum), and the younger brother of a current ACU student. Chalk is a 6-4, 240 tight end. ACU did try to recruit him, but he was determined to go "big time" from the get-go. From what I have heard, ACU gave it a good shot.

Regarding local recruiting. I noticed that there were no D1 signees out of the Abilene area except Anderson as a walk on. The big country has not exactly been a hot bed of talent in recent years.

You guys who were watching 247 rankings of recruits - where did ACU end up? Did we stay in the top 10 after all the dust had cleared?

You guys who were watching 247 rankings of recruits - where did ACU end up? Did we stay in the top 10 after all the dust had cleared? Yup. Finished 9th (137th overall) For comparative purposes, that's just three spots behind North Dakota State (134th). You will be pleased to know that we passed Bethune Cookman (not sure where they finished). It was a very good year for us even if you consider all the caveats about the flaws of recruiting rankings for high school school players, particularly those at the FCS level and below. Unfortunately for us, several SLC schools are bunched together in the rankings-Lamar, Sam, SFA, and ACU. And a couple of others are not far behind. Player development becomes critical, something schools like NDSU are known for doing exceptionally well. I am encouraged though that our new S&C guy has lots of D1 football experience and Tweets indicate he has our players working harder than they have every worked. That's gotta help.

Picked up the USA Today looking for news on the FCS front regarding signing day and rankings. Good luck on that one.....not a word. But I did see a picture of one of BigBoy's relatives on page 4 in a story on cognitive issues in former players. Pretty interesting. They can remember things that happened in a game 50 yrs. ago but can't remember what they had for breakfast. Hey, wait a minute.....sometimes that happens to me.

I can remember the stats from the Cats last football game but can't remember what chores Mrs OWC assigned me 30 minutes ago. It's probably a cognitive issues left over from sports injuries I suffered as a lad. I'll tell her that next time she gets on me. I'm sure she will be understanding and offer me proper sympathy.

We all know what the Mrs. will say when you tell her you can't remember what chores she gave you 30 min. ago, Oscar. The truth. It's called selective memory.

You guys who were watching 247 rankings of recruits - where did ACU end up? Did we stay in the top 10 after all the dust had cleared? Fyi, for comparative purposes....last year ACU was 47th in the FCS ranking. 9th sounds much better. And as a warning about taking these things too seriously.....our top rated recruits from two years ago were Anthony Davis and Terry Ausborne, neither of whom are around any longer.
