"The dead period is the most restrictive. No in-person contact is allowed, even if a prospect makes a visit to the college campus. Written and electronic communications are still permitted. And yet, prospects still do decide to commit to schools in late December and early January, often because they've considered all their options, taken all their visits, and are ready to pull the trigger."

I hope our new staff is initiating lots of contacts with prospects for 2017 as well as current players who are considering a transfer. Losing out in 2017 and taking a substantial hit from the banner class of 2016 would be very bad for our immediate future. The new coaching staff won't play a single down for us, no matter how good they are.

Even the best coaching staff can't turn guys who are slower than three toed sloths into all americans. Gotta go get some guys with the raw talent to be coached up. Losing key players from last year and having a subpar year this year on the recruiting front will make it tough for us to catch up with the rest of the conference. I'm hoping our staff is all over trying to hold on to the guys we have and and unearthing prospects for the future.

Ahhhh, got it Agree.... It does sound like they are networking and communicating as best they can for now. Hopefully we can hear more soon. I am still hoping our current players buy in and step up to help during this transition.

Coach Dorrel said tonight that he expected a good recruiting class. I hope this isn't coach speak. We need a good class. Glad to hear that Coach Walsh is excited about Dallas.

Add my thanks as well. Great interview that I would have otherwise missed. Nice to hear Coach D's thoughts about why he hired who he did....Jackson sounds like he will be a real asset as a coach and Walsh will help immediately with recruiting. It is also nice to hear him talk about recruiting and to essentially say the depth in Texas HS football is such that kids who are mostly overlooked here would be coveted recruits in other parts of the country. I do hope our entire class is not made up of these undiscovered gems but I am sure there is a measure of truth to what he is saying.

The staff is out on the recruiting trail today and tomorrow. It would not surprise me if we start hearing about players receiving offers. Monday-Thursday starts another dead period. Staff is currently in Dallas

Thanks for the link, I was Skyping with my son and missed most of it so it was nice to go back over. I figured by early January we would begin to get trickles of information and highlights. We have a good speculative list of recruits and am sure there will be other names before it is over. I am hoping we can build a recruit generating system for ACU that provides the consistency and depth we will need moving forward in FCS. I am sure it will be closer to spring practice before we really know who is committed to the program from our current roster. I don't want to lose the talent I know we currently have and am a little anxious to hear from those current players as well as the coaching staff and recruits.

The staff is out on the recruiting trail today and tomorrow. It would not surprise me if we start hearing about players receiving offers. Monday-Thursday starts another dead period. Staff is currently in Dallas Couple of things -
1) Don't forget that Josh Bloom and Adrian Duncan will be playing football on Saturday - I'm planning to be parked in front of a TV somewhere to watch those boys do ACU proud! Catdad said he was going to try to make it up there - I hope his health is good and is able to successfully make that trip so that he can enjoy watching Big'un play in one more game!
2) Happy to announce that the ACU coaching staff has a new intern - a former QB by the name of Parker McKenzie. First day on the job was yesterday and we were with him in Abilene last night so that he could (finally) open his Christmas presents - and celebrate his new "job". He was in that marathon film session with everyone yesterday and his comments about the coaching staff are VERY upbeat and he's pretty excited to be a part of the action. While they are on the road, he'll be back in the film room getting more info sorted through & is working with staff on procedures, scheduling and all the other behind the scenes stuff. On the way home from dinner, said he had to be "at work at 8am" - said it sounded strange to say that - we said it sounded really good!
Guess we'll be putting in that seat deposit for the new stadium after all.
