Let me kick off this thread with a signee for 2017. The NLI signing window for track and field does not close until August 1 (this coming Tuesday), so there may still be some late signees. Of course, you can still bring in scholarship people in the fall who have NOT signed the NLI, but the signing of the NLI closes out your rivals from stealing someone late.
ACU signed Mya Henson, from Converse Judson, to a NLI earlier this week (saw it on twitter as well). As to be expected with a signee this late in the day, she is not a HS All-American, but should be an interesting prospect. She won the District 27-6A 200 meter title and ran on the Judson relays that got 5th at the state meet in the 4x100 relay and 7th in the 4x200. She joins a slew of new female sprinters -- Tori Hardy from Lancaster, Karrington Lewis from Melissa, Taylor Tolen from Denton Guyer -- all with good potential. Hopefully, these new women sprinters will also push returning junior Jessica King to step up her game. I have always felt like Jessica has talent, but she has not been able to consistently tap into that potential.
Once school begins, I will prepare a complete preview for XC/T&F - teams that should be substantially improved from 2017! I want to let school begins to make sure that some of the intriguing walkon prospects actually do matriculate to ACU and aren't snapped up at the last moment by schools that have a little scholarship money to hand out.

There’s a youth movement at Midway High School.
After the volleyball program graduated a rarity of a senior class – with six players signing with Division I schools – the Pantherettes are reloading as the volleyball season begins Monday. Notice the reloading. Midway isn’t rebuilding.
“We’re in a good place,” Midway coach Ryan Porter said. “We’re putting in a new defense and trying to figure out everyone’s new role after a great group of girls left. We do have three returning starting varsity players that will be seniors. They’re carrying the young ones while they’re still trying to figure everything out and their role on the team.”
Those three are Kennedy Childers, Emery Judkins and Madison Rohre. Childers and Judkins are adjusting to play outside hitter instead of right side. Rohre will be the starting setter.
“Madison has already committed to go to Abilene Christian,” Porter said. “She’s more than capable of running a great offense. She’s our leader right now. We’ve got a lot of young kids who are trying to get caught up to the speed of varsity play at our level. We don’t play weak teams. We try to play the best teams that are around and see how we match up against them.”

Heather Sledge was hired a month ago at New Braunfels to replace Robin Gerlich, who resigned and moved to S.A. Christian, and inherits a team that returns six letter winners, including at least three starters. The Unicorns finished 38-13 in 2016, are the defending District 27-6A champion and were one win shy from advancing to the Region IV-6A tournament.
SMU commit Hannah Jacobs, Abilene Christian pledge Lindsey Toney, setter Ellie Wipf and libero Danyella Longoria give Sledge a strong foundation to build around.
Sledge, who was head coach at Lockhart in 2016, was an assistant coach on New Braunfels’ 2012 state-finalist squad. The Unicorns lost to Coppell in five sets in the final.

So, I'm curious if Midway's youth and inexperience might have been a factor or if our girls are loaded this year with a first-year coach. Trackfan can probably provide more insight, but I'm thinking Midway is going to a force come playoff time (as usual). So, it will be fun to follow Madison's season.

Another basketball commit, this time for the women. Diamond Willcot has committed. She's a 3* 2018 Wing from Desoto and was ranked by ESPN as the 39th best at her position.

I've researched her a bit .... she's the real deal. She could be a star. Along with Jenna Cooper and Kamryn Mraz, that should round out the 2018 class. They will sign in Nov**, I understand. **Edit

Cap'n, a quick look at the nationalletter.org website yielded the following info:
-early signing date for men's and women's basketball, men's and women's track and field, golf, men's and women's tennis, baseball, and softball is November 8-15, 2017
-early signing date for D-I football only is December 20-22, 2017 (this is the new small signing window that goes into effect this year)
-the regular signing period for football and soccer (which does not have an early signing period) opens on Feb 7
-the sports that have an early signing period in November open back up for the regular signing period on April 11
Clear as mud? Imagine how challenging it is to the 18-year-old who is trying to make a decision about their future.

TF, thanks for the info. Of the sports that I follow closely, WBB is done for 2018 and they are thrilled about this class. SB is done but will bring in a transfer pitcher at semester.
I really think that the early signing period for football is a boon for FCS programs. Many big programs will essentially fill up their classes in December and the athletes who wait and wait and wait will know where they stand a lot sooner. Thus the FCS teams will have more time to recruit the second and third tier players that they like. It will be interesting to see how aggressive our coaches and other SLC coaches are in pursuing early signings.
