Our old conference, the LSC has merged with the Heartland Confernce and will add the 8 teams from the conference in 2019. That will bring the LSC up to 19 members! The teams added will be the University of Arkansas-Fort Smith, Dallas Baptist University, Lubbock Christian University, Oklahoma Christian University, Rogers State University, St. Edward’s University, St. Mary’s University, and Texas A&M International University.

Isn't Dallas Baptist University a D1 school?

What do all the schools in the Heartland have in common? They do NOT play football. While this will help in scheduling for basketball and baseball, it won't help the LSC with their need for more football playing schools.

It seems that we never had that much trouble filling game slots in the LSC. Has it been getting worse? I thought the LSC had added some schools after we left, but I think there were only 9 with football.

All of the Oklahoma schools left the LSC. That included Southeastern OK, UCO, Northeastern OK, East Central OK, etc. So as far as football goes, you had around 6 schools left for conference.

They sure don't like the Southland over on the D2 board 😂 I saw one person call it the worst D1 conference.

Another interesting aspect of the new, re-constituted LSC concerns track and field (you know I always have to have a T&F angle!) The Heartland has never hosted a conference track meet. In the NCAA, if a conference does not host a conference championship in a sport that a conference member fields, that school is allowed to affiliate with another conference as an affiliate member in that sport. Therefore, LCU was already competing in the LSC in indoor track and outdoor track and will no doubt continue to do so in the next 2 years until the merger is complete.
The other Heartland schools that field track teams are DBU, OCU, and Rogers State. DBU has been competing as an independent in track and I would expect to see them at the LSC championship in T&F as early as this coming spring. Both OCU and Rogers have been competing in the Great American Conference in T&F for the past couple of years - that is the conference composed of schools in OK and AR, including the schools that bolted the LSC a few years ago. I think that OCU and Rogers will be required to compete with the LSC in T&F once the schools are full members in 2 years. I am not sure what those schools will do in the interim 2 years.

The SLC is nowhere close to being the worst D-1 Conference and will never descend to that position as long as the SWAC and MEAC exist. Frankly, there are several other conferences that are far below the SLC in stature.
