Yesterday, Jacksonville University decided to shutter its football program. The Dolphins played their games in the non-scholarship Pioneer League (which has the lowest ranking among the FCS programs). That said, several all-conference players will be looking for new schools where they can play. They had three Honorable Mention offensive lineman, including redshirt Junior Dane Cordell (5 10 285), who went to high school at Plano East. RB Garrett Nicholas (6'2 220) was listed on the HERO Preseason Freshman All American Team and had 760 rushing yards on the season. Sophomore LB Ethan Hull (6'0 220) also earned an all-Conference Honorable Mention. Their leading player again this year was Calvin Turner Jr (6'1 195). A Junior, Turner has played on both sides of the ball for the Dolphins; this year at QB. He rushed for 15 TDs and 1355 yards, but he completed less than 100 passes. That was enough to earn First Team All-Conference mark in the Pioneer League.

One thing that impressed me about JUs roster was the amount of players that had academic awards and many went to prep schools or transferred from the service academies.

The staff (not sure it will be all of them) will be at the Liberty Christian (Argyle) School college football showcase tonight. There are 4 D1 schools that will be in attendance; us, Sam Houston St, Nevada and UNT. This isn't just for Liberty Christian players, but for HS players around the state to showcase their skills. My guess is the majority of players that will attend are players that believe they have been under recruited up to this point in time. Who knows, maybe we find a diamond in the rough.

I was curious to how ACU publicizes the early signees. Last year, ACU issued a press release at the end of day 1 of the early signing window and in it, there were 8 signees announced. Two were HS kids (Andrew Stripling and Jessie Anderson) and 6 were JC kids (Paxton Bergdoll, Michael Gayden, Lakendrick Jones, Hunter Kier, Tanner Parker, Zach Terry). If we do indeed sign 6-8 HS kids in the early signing window, we will be FAR ahead of last year.
Then, on January 25, ACU announced the transfers from D-1 programs -- Zach Branner (remember him?), Branden Hohenstein, Bright Ihegworo, Lionell (LJ) McConnell. Finally, on February 6, the beginning of the regular signing window, ACU announced 11 additional HS kids -- Cody Anthony, Jostein Clarke, Devin Davis, Darryl Minor (who left before the 1st day of school), Will Morgan, James Neal, Osaretin Obadeyi, Logan Smith, Gabe Sonnier, Ryan Stapp and Wyatt Tate. In that same release, there were three walkons mentioned (I don't remember walkons ever being mentioned in a press release from ACU), Jacob Thielen, Max McCalley, and Colton Pool -- Pool never made it to campus at all.
I would imagine we will see a similar cycle of releases for this year's signees. It appears that the early signing window may well be flipped with a large majority of HS kids and a few JC kids. Two weeks from today, we will have a much better idea of the early signees.

Trackfan, I agree with you. It will be very interesting to see how this all plays out.
1. Which high school players that are committed actually sign early? It would be great if all 6 did, or if we have 6+. I think we have 2-4 silent commits that haven't announced their commitment to us yet. 2. Do we get any JUCO commits? The staff has offered 7 JUCO players and are looking at 5-6 more. 3. How many FBS players to we add? The staff is looking heavily at drop downs; more so than they have before. Right now, the staff is in the gathering information stage, but I expect in the next month, we will hear that we have a few FBS transfers in place 4. How many players transfer out? Minor already did and I know of 2 more that may not be back. 5. Any staff turnover? Right now, everyone looks like they are coming back, but we thought that last year and then Coach Jackson and Coach Brown left.
