The grandson of a solid ACU family is an All-Star player in Texas HS football, but he is not coming to ACU. Maybe it is because he is target material for top tier FBS schools (and he is) but I would love to have a program that attracted such high level talent. I seem to recall another one like that a few years back, was even a local kid but Austin came-a-callin.... I keep dreaming though. There are times when family ties aren’t enough to persuade a child or a grandchild to go to ACU. Trackfan’s granddaughter is playing VB at the University of Georgia instead of ACU. My grandson plans to attend Central Florida rather than ACU next year. He’s not an athlete but as a national merit scholar he was recruited like one.

I had all star daughters but they wanted a change of scene for the experience of beginning their next phase of life. So even after ACES and or ACHS, they went first to bigger schools, Abilene High and Cooper and then on to UT. I wished they had gone to ACU, but they did very well at Texas. I guess the person's interest figures more than ties to ACU. If they had been physicists I might have objected because they could not have had to a better undergrad experience than ACU. Still, I wish they had chosen ACU.

I don’t blame an elite recruit from choosing a higher profile university. Sometimes it works out, sometimes not.

One thing that certainly needs improvement is the flow of info about the football team to the ACU athletic fan community. Judging from a Twitter post, the Wildcats have started spring football and not a word has come out on ACUSports.com about the team. With the internet traffic that is headed to ACUsports.com right now (enough traffic to crash the site on Saturday night), this would be a great opportunity to talk about other sports as well and get the word out to a whole different set of people.
I do not blame our SID's office. Like so many other areas in athletics, ACU is trying to get by on a D-2 budget when it comes to our SID office. I also know that they have been swamped with this March Madness opportunity. In cases like this, the ACU football coaches should be going out of their way to provide a heavy stream of info to the SID's office to help them get the word out and I don't know that this is happening.

I can’t think of a less apathetic or dull time in recent history with the football team. This is dorrels 4th year I think. Makes me concerned that people have checked out or that we haven’t figured out a recipe. If they see basketball having success are they feeling neglected? Then let’s start winning and let’s start promoting and let’s start building excitement somehow.

Totally agree. I had no idea that spring football has started. Sorta ticks me off in a way, but I’ll try to give them the benefit of the doubt.

Normally I'm a much bigger football fan than basketball so it feels strange to be so disappointed that basketball season is over and not even be very excited about football starting. This will be a very important year for football or it will become a secondary sport to basketball. I don't know a single one of the basketball players but I "feel" like I do. Maybe some of that is just the more personal nature of basketball but football needs to do a better job of making it feel like it is "our" team.

Indeed. We need to somehow leverage the enthusiasm from our basketball team over to the football team now. I hope our players feel some juice from seeing the success a team can enjoy. Maybe football will kick it up a gear. I am sure our fans are eager to see a good season. How exciting would a good year be!!!

Scheduling. Scheduling definitely needs to improve. NW State’s Twitter fan forum took a subtle swipe at us for scheduling LA College. I couldn’t even force myself to rise to our defense.

Our football team has, of recent, had a poor passing attack for many reasons. If there is one thing that could energize our attitude toward football it would be a super effective and diverse passing attack. In recent years we have been easy to defend and not very multi-dimensional. I remember the excitement and explosiveness of Jim L and John M always posing explosive threats. We have a mundane passing attack.

That's because it's simply not defensible. We just suck it up, move on, and pray our scheduling somehow improves......

At least we are finally throwing downfield again.

Scheduling. Scheduling definitely needs to improve. NW State’s Twitter fan forum took a subtle swipe at us for scheduling LA College. I couldn’t even force myself to rise to our defense. The main issue with scheduling in 2021 is the the move to the WAC. One of the non-conference games became a conference game. The SLC schools won’t play the Texas4 this year. What did the Fall 2020 NWSU schedule look like? So the problem with DemonFan’s argument is that the makeshift schedule is partly on the public schools in Louisiana for not contributing enough to keep the Southland together, and that includes the school in “nakadish.”
