Every few days, I will do a position by position breakdown. First up is QB. I think it is safe to say that this position is likely full
Jr Mansell Fr Earle True Fr Hayden Anderson True Fr Carson Cross (walk-on) True Fr Trevor Baker (walk-on) True Fr Casen Olson (walk-on)
A 2nd year in the program for both Mansell and Earle should do wonders. Both are good athletes and if we can surround them with athletes, that could really help them.
My vote is that we are better and a bit deeper than last year, especially if we can add a few pieces to the WR corp

Mansell throws a "hard" ball. Earle throws a very catchable ball. Our receivers had a hard time catching some very accurate throws from Mansell. Maybe with a year and a spring season under their belt we can be more consistent. Also, it seemed we were scared for Mansell to use his feet (run) at the first of the year. Maybe with a full complement of QB's we can be a little more creative with QB draws and runs. I look for QB to be a strength.

I am going to vote better because both Mansell and Earle will have another year under their belts and we are deeper. Mansell still struggled when pressured last year. Hopefully he will improve on that. Stone had a great start and I only see him getting better.

Can’t dismiss what Sema’J was able to bring to the table. Though more time in the system does help the names mentioned. Though I admit I have no idea what our system is.

I chuckle at the "I have no idea what our system is" comment. Come to think of it, I don't know either. If pressed I'd say it was "run for your life" last year.

Mansell must learn to break the huddle and look at the defense, chin up surveying the defense. Too often he was looking down as his play selections on the wrist. Then with more awareness, he really needs to know when he has to get the ball out in 2 seconds or less, or recognize the defense and protection to look more into a mid-level passing opportunity. Just my opinion. I really enjoyed watching Brady (who I normally don't like all that much, maybe because he was a Pat all those years) analyze and then quickly respond to the schemes and defensive pressure. That kind of awareness is what we need.

I think we're a little better only because we have depth. I've never been a big fan of a 2 QB system and would prefer that someone clearly rises to the top.

Do you think we have a 2 QB system? Mansell played 95% of the snaps until the last game when Earle played a half to get some "big game" experience. I have no reason to believe this year will be different.

I have no reason to believe this year will be different. I don't know that any of know the answer to that question until possibly this spring (hopefully, there will be some info leaked out during spring). My bet is that Mansell will be the lead and Stone Earle will be the backup and will not get a lot of reps barring injury. I do think we were much closer to a 2-QB system last year, when the coaches were talking so much about Sema'J during the preseason, but he did not get the kind of looks I was expecting prior to his terrible accident. I still think that put a rather huge damper on the season in 2020.

Yes. I believe Earle is good. I also believe he is our future QB (4 yrs. of eligibility). He will be Mansell's backup this year unless an injury happens. I don't think we've seen Mansell's best and I don't think Earle will transfer.

Well, or Mahomes, I guess, but Mahomes relies more on his athletic ability... I just was frustrated watching our quarterback in the fall. Great quarterbacks are surveilling the defense and preparing their options much more quickly than we were. I just used Brady as a seasoned example of someone who breaks huddle and is a step ahead while watching every defensive shift. Of course that takes training and experience but that is what I wished we worked on a lot more. Many times, it seemed we did not have time to do much assessment of the defense because play calling was taking too much time being relayed from the coaches to the field to the huddle. Several cases we had one-on-one outside almost isolated and did not even pick it up, and not a few times one could see the blitz sneaking up too late to respond. I was just watching a game from the stands with an ex-player and a coach around me and was not the only one who spotted this problem.
