Just getting ready for tonight's WAC opener. Utah Valley will be a huge test for us. They are 9-3 and ranked @ 75 in NET rankings and ACU is @ 85. UVU is up to #20 on the Mid-Major poll. They are being led by both Fardaws Aimaq and Le'Tre Darthard. They seem to be defending well, especially against the 3s and rebounding well. I doubt we will even try to outrebound them, especially Aimaq. I do see us trying to prevent Aimaq from getting in shooting position to begin with. If we can shut down lanes, that will help us in the paint defensively. I am not sure how well we will do in the paint offensively. Can we create enough turnovers and protect the ball? Those will be continued keys to any victory, as well as making our FTs. Anyway, good luck guys.

UVU is #77 and ACU #83 going into tonight’s game. Why is this significant? This is a potential quad 2 win and not a quad 1.

All 4 of the top 100 WAC teams are grouped pretty close.

All 4 of the top 100 WAC teams are grouped pretty close. We play our top four conference opponents between tonight and January 15. We will know what kind of team we have in the next couple of weeks.

It startles and disrupts the majority of teams that we see. Since the Wolverines do have great size (and has anyone else noticed their enrollment? over 41,000), the Cats ability to make perimeter shots and create off the bounce will tell the tale. We have made good strides in this facet of the game.

We have made good strides in this facet of the game. I agree, can we create enough disruption on their part. If we are struggling with the perimeter or jump shots, can we create some misdirection and lanes underneath? A team like UVU will tell us a lot. We are going to need to protect the ball and be able to score off of turnovers and in transition.

Agreed. I like that we are disrupting their flow but staying out of foul trouble. We're not really gambling either. The Cats offense and shooting look terrific. It's nice to see Cameron Steele playing with confidence in such a big game.

Utah Valley has a distinct height advantage but we are rebounding well so far. ACU is up 23-19

Aimaq is starting to establish himself a little in the paint, but we are still slowing him down. We are winning the turnover margin, but not scoring off of many of them. We have a long way to go, but we are staying in the lead.

Typical ACU defense 7-2 turnover margin, 4-0 edge in steals. 31-19 lead.

The Wolverines are hoping to get to the half so they can go over the scouting report again. If the Cats can keep their composure on offense and continuing making shots, they might just pull away. It's nice to see the coaches getting so many guys playing experience here.
