This group fascinates me. There appears to be a lot of talent. Roland Williams plays with an edge. He talks a lot, which is something Coach Wilson wants from his corners. Haskins is a 2-time JUCO all-American. He was then outstanding his Jr. year at Liberty, but then got passed over on the depth chart last year. Jolly is another player that received playing time early in his career, but less and less as time went on. Anderson has received a decent amount of playing time in his first 2 seasons with ACU. I really thought Garrett would be more in the mix last year. It will be interesting to see if this staff will give him more of a shot. Why would Thursby list himself as a CB? If the staff is running a 3-3-5 defense, your 5th DB is a hybrid player. First, he needs to be able to play the slot. Second, he has to be able to tackle. In his high school tape, Thursby was often seen playing an attacking LB role. At his size, you don't play LB if you can't tackle.
All this being said, I hate that we lost Stapp. He was the Josh Fink on defense. You look at him; not big, not intimidating, but quicker than you think and he was always in the right spot. How many starting college corners also play special teams? Not many. He will be missed and I think he just might start at Minnesota. Tells you just how good he is.
Satterfield is someone I had high hopes for. When he committed, he seemed to be all about ACU. I'll never forget that late in his Fr. year, the coaching staff had him start. He looked lost. He did not have a good game. It seemed like his confidence took a hit last year and he was nothing more than our 4-5 corner.
The depth looks really good. If Haskins and Jolly are what we think they could be, this unit has a chance to be really special. For now, I think its too early to tell if we are better. Again depth wise, it looks solid, but we will see

That’s interesting about Thursby. SMU had him at Safety and that’s how he’s listed on 247.
I’m gonna vote that we are improved with Jolley, Haskins and Thursby to offset the loss of Stapp, who is in fact listed as running number one on their post spring depth chart.

For now, I think we are improved, even with the loss of Stapp. We have brought in some really good players and the returning ones should have better practice time at least. It may be too early to tell but I really see where this could be a strength for us.

The depth is clearly better, but Stapp was growing into a special player. This group will have to be good. Hero Sports listed the top retuning WRs in the FCS; #1 was Xavier Gibson (SFA).
Stapp did ok running and closing gaps around him, but then everyone else was running free.
We have to be able to improve our overall coverage. Any pass rush would be a welcome sight.

I think we have better overall talent. The question is "will the talent translate to better play." Stapp was outstanding but the dropoff after him was troubling. Hopefully we've upgraded the coaching as well as the players. I'm not a fan of the "yapping" especially after a 15-20 yd pass completion. We saw that way too much last year. I hope we have a couple of pass rushers coming, that would help.

I voted better just because I felt like this was one of our weakest areas (outside of Stapp) last year.

Anything that overcomes the sense of dread I felt when opponents had 3rd and long will be an improvement. Other than the one obvious exception, our secondary was manhandled most every game. I wish there was a “Can’t be worse, can it?” choice in the poll.

Shelby Washington is now playing corner. Not a fan of the yapping either. Fact that the new Corners coach likes it is telling. New staff brought in a ton of players, guarantee besides maybe some improved wins you true ACU alum are not going to like the culture change that comes with it.

Not sure what the culture has been but you certainly could be right. I would hope that our new coaches have been schooled on what kind of character to look for as well as football talent and IQ. I would also hope that behavior has been defined and will be watched closely. Patterson has too much to lose by being lax in these areas, methinks. The culture I want to change is "losing."

I think I could say "too early to tell" about virtually all of the position groups at ACU.

If Shelby Washington has been moved to CB and Thursby identifies as a CB, then who do we have at Safety? With the addition of Dorian Plumley, CB from OU, maybe we can shore up safety too by moving some CB's to that position.
