The three way competition at QB has been interesting. As Steven Lee says though, it’s almost time to begin ‘whittling down,’ and set a depth chart..with that in mind…
McIvor seems to have the strongest arm and the best QB first name so that’s who I’m going with.

I voted Mansell. I honestly think it comes down to Mansell or Long. The times I have walked by practice, Mansell has been the guy at QB and each time he has looked good. I do think all 3 are capable of being the starter, which is tremendous. I'm hopeful there will be an open scrimmage this weekend where fans can come and watch. If so, I will be there
And I was just told there will be an open scrimmage that will be announced today. I would imagine the scrimmage will be Friday or Saturday

At this point, it's too close for me to call. I wonder if we rotate QBs at all? I would imagine we may in the first couple of games as we continue to narrow the depth chart.

I imagine the Lamar game will provide an opportunity to get at least two QB’s on the field, unless they have improved dramatically.

I think Mansell begins the season as the starter but I'm not as confident the season ends that way.

I think Mansell begins the season as the starter but I'm not as confident the season ends that way. The big knock on Mansell is his on-the-field judgement. Over the course of two seasons he’s thrown more interceptions than TD’s. Maybe a new QB coach, taller receivers, better pass protection have transformed him but it’s a nagging concern.

Last year, Peyton seemed very effective as the "change of pace" QB and coming in primarily to run. Late in the season, due to Stone Earle's injury, he had to play the entire game and that is when some of his shortcomings were more evident. But, there have times when he looks like a world-beater, butI agree with Oscar that there are nagging concerns. It is wonderful that ACU appears to have 3 solid options at QB.

The things Oscar mentioned should make a difference in Mansell's performance (new QB coach, taller receivers, better pass protection) and I'll add another, faster or quicker receivers (I'm hoping). But the fact remains that Mansell throws a "heavy" ball that is hard to catch. He has to improve his touch to be effective. He has a strong arm but not all passes need that and certain receivers can't handle a 90 mph fastball. I say that not knowing many of our new receivers. Maybe they can and maybe Mansell is our guy. I'm just glad we seem to have somewhere to go if he's not the guy. Bring on Lamar.

How do we know Mansell throws a heavy ball and that it is hard to catch? What if Long and McIvor throw that way? I think most of our passes last year were at or near the line of scrimmage. So sometimes that ball jumps on you if you are standing 3 feet away from each other. Maybe he does throw a heavy ball, but my question is, do WE really know that

Maybe he does throw a heavy ball, but my question is, do WE really know that I don't know that Mansell threw a heavy ball. I do know that he struggled throwing to smaller targets, within a narrow window, while under stress. He did throw very beautiful passes as well occasionally. Now, the new RPO offense, bigger receivers, and better OL may be enough to help Mansell into the starting position. Maybe Peyton has improved since last year. I don't really know. He has a lot of talent though, as well as the others. I still like the competition.

I'm honestly not trying to pick, but it's an honest question. How do we know Mansell throws a heavy ball? What players have been spoken to about this? Mansell was set up last year to be the backup, running QB. That was his role. Then Earle got hurt and his role changed. Our offense was terrible and I do not lay most of that on the players feet. The offense was extremely vanilla and easy to figure out. One of the biggest statements said by Coach Lee was Kobe was moving back to his natural role as a slot receiver. That is critical. Why? If the majority of your WRs are small in stature, rarely will they win on down the field throws. You don't ever throw a jump ball, as we aren't going to win those. Again, I'm not trying to pick a fight. Maybe we needed a better offense. Maybe we needed better WRs. Maybe we needed taller/faster players. Maybe Mansell does throw a heavy ball and none of our guys can catch it.
I have no dog in this fight. May the best QB win and let's get behind that QB.
