It's finally game week, so time to start the threads. This year we open up the season with Lamar on Thursday evening, 9/1/22. What are your expectations for the game, especially considering we played them twice last year? We have new coaches, players and schemes. Does last year get thrown out? We beat them handily the first game and they were a little more prepared for us the second. Still, the second game was within our control. I do have this one as a win for us, but not sure how the game will really play out.

It would be very dissapointing to lose this game after beating them twice last year, including once 56-0.

I think there are so many unknowns for Lamar looking at us because there are different schemes to prepare for, and they don't know what that looks like. Now, they could go back and watch some D3 highlights to see the OC's prior offense. We have a pretty good idea about what they are going to do. I think that gives us the advantage.
I think we are somewhat vanilla in our play calling for game one, and I believe we get the victory to start 1-0 on the season.

ACU by 18. I think all of us will be surprised by the team’s performance - hopefully in a good way.

I would like to see us by 21 or more knowing we beat them last year 56-0, but again, different team and a lot of unknowns at this point. I want to see our defense stuff them and keep them under 150 yards, with at least two turnovers. Mainly I want to see us play clean and dominate in all 3 phases. That's my wish list and just anxious to watch it play out.

Well, Lamar’s cornerbacks are all 5’9 ish. Could be a tough night against our big, big receivers. I think we will score at least 35 and hold them to 21 perhaps.

Somewhere in this 18-minute clip KP says ACU QB Peyton Mansell will be moved on defense to safety. Says he brings leadership to a young defense. OK!
H/T Owen Simpson

With Mansell being voted captain by his team and not the coaching staff, I wonder how likely he is to be a starter at safety, a totally new position.

And, I simply don't know what to expect there at all. As far as my prediction on this game, I am hoping for something like 38-17 for the 'Cats -- a 21 point win that shows dominance, but I just think there are too many new people on our side of the ball to expect another 56 point blowout.

The thing I liked best about the press conference is how much KP smiles. I think his demeanor is perfect for our head coach.
Remember this, Mansell is big, strong, and very fast. As he learns the position, he could be a difference-maker. But he’s unlikely to start right away, if ever.

I thought it was a really good press conference, mainly because of how KP handled himself and the press. It felt more professional over-all and hope the level of these only gets better. I have no clue if Mansell actually starts at safety, but I am on board with the unusual move. I think he has a chance to make a difference at that position and hope that the learning curve is short.
