Here is video from their game last week: They run a spread, RPO offense. QB is very mobile and looks to run. LB's have to stay home. DB's can't just lock in on the guy they are covering. I would expect, while they want to establish the run, I would bet they try to test us early, like Lamar did in the pass game Thanks Mavsman, the same footage I was watching the other night. I would add that I also saw things that we can take advantage of as well.

most people look at us the way the preseason summary of Missouri’s opponents that you posted earlier look at us- A team that hasn’t been a factor since we turned d1, with a 58 year old first time head coach who has had mediocre results as a defensive coordinator. We may as well resign ourselves to being held in low regard until we prove we are improved. The only time it’s really bothered me is when the WAC rep on podcasts disparages his own conference apart from SFA. Btw, where did you see this prediction? I didn’t find it on their fb site. Our prediction is at about the 49 min. mark. I know that most look at us superficially, but The Rev was the one that made comments that I think he knows better. He knows us and if he was observant enough to say that we were awkward offensively, which we were, but we also put up good offensive numbers and stuffed Lamar defensively so he should have observed those things as well. The others on this podcast, as well as others that cover FCS I am just learning to take with a grain of salt. It's funny to watch these guys talk about the same teams week in and week out, boringly funny but funny. I don't see how anyone can say our offense looked better last season. Even with a bunch of new people, I thought we looked better in the first game (or at least showed signs of being better) than we looked on offense nearly every game last year.

I agree that we were awkward at times offensively and couldn't get a rhythm going. Still, we were quite productive and I agree that we showed signs of being better as a whole. I think if people didn't see that at least, they really weren't looking or paying attention.

Some stat comparisons:
The Wildcats tallied 217 yards on the ground on 44 attempts, losing 31 yards for a total of 186 on the ground. ACU was 22-39 in passing for 258 yards and two scores. The total for offense was 83 plays for 444 yards and four touchdowns. The team had 25 first downs.
ACU gave up just seven first downs on defense, two on the ground and five passing. The Cardinals gained just 68 total yards on the ground on 23 attempts and accumulated 204 yards through the air one 8 of 24 passes. Of course, the two plays that led to Lamar's only two scores were for 59 and 79 yards each. So take out the 138 yards, and the rest of the game, the Cardinals only gained 120 yards, 66 yards in the air. Outside those two blown coverage plays, LU averaged 11 yards per catch.
The Wildcats totaled 24 yards per kickoff return and allowed one kickoff return for 17 yards and two punt returns for 3.5 yards each.
Banks led the team with 18 carries for 69 yards while Smith had 10 touches for 65 yards and a score. McIvor was 22-38 for 258 yards and two TDs. Catalon had seven catches for 119 yards and a TD and Clark had six receptions for 71 yards and a score.
Bradley led the Wildcats with five tackles, followed by Morgan, Paup and Young all with four. The defense had for TFL for minus-11 yards and one sack for a loss of four, three PBUs, 10 QB hurries and a fumble recovery.
PVAM racked up 369 yards of total rushing on 63 attempts (5.9 ypr) with five rushing TDs. The Panthers did lose 39 yards, including getting sacked one time for minus-six yards and 7.0 tackles for loss for minus-22 yards. PVAM gained 25 yards through the air after going 2-7 for with two INTs. The offense gained 5.6 yards per play on 70 plays from scrimmage.
PVAM defense gave up 174 yards of total offense, including 150 yards on the ground and 53 yards in the air. The Tigers were 7-17 with one INT and ran the ball 40 times for an average of 3.0 ypc.
The Panthers averaged 15.5 yards per kickoff return and 6.0 yards per punt return. The special teams allowed TSU to gain 26.7 yards per kickoff return.
PVAM was 5-5 in the redzone with four TDs.
One number that stands out to me is the time of possession. If their stats are right, it shows that PVAM had the ball for 35:05 of the 40 minutes of the game. That's crazy!
Trazon Connley (QB) had nine carries for 121 yards and two TDs (13.4 avg). Jaden Stewart was 22-120 with two scores (5.5 avg) and Ahmad Antoine was 22-86 with a TD (3.9 avg). Connley was 2-6 with one INT and threw for 25 yards. Stewart caught one of the passes for a total of 20 yards.
On defense, the Panthers were led by four different players with six tackles each; however, one of the players is listed with six tackles three different times. Not sure about that in the stats. PVAMU 10 tackles for a loss of -30 yards and three sacks for -14 yards. They had one INT, four PBUs and no QB hurries.
Last year, Connley played in five games and was 6-20 passing for 55 yards and had 25 carries for 108 yards. Stewart led the team in rushing with 132 carries for 651 yards. The team (7-5 overall) averaged 161.5 yards on the ground and 230.17 yards in the air. They allowed 137.5 yards rushing and 313.2 yards passing each game.
I think if our defense stays strong and stays in their gaps and our offense gets rolling, we win this game 27-14. The keys will be controlling the QB's running lanes and the time of possession. To score, we have to have the ball longer than the five minutes that TSU had it last week against PVAMU.
Go Wildcats!

Well, a lot of questions will be answered after tomorrow evening. I think our D is better for sure but until we face a strong ground game, who knows? Offensive firepower should be good, and we should learn something about our pass protection. This is a game to really analyze. So many have said it is the game one to game two period that reveals a lot about a team.

Coach McDowell's comments about our game starts at about 7:06. Says he is going to try and open it up on us and attempt some passing. Is it just a smoke screen??

No doubt, Prairie View is not a passing team. The only way I see them opening up the passing game is if we get a few touchdown lead. Even then they will still run the ball mostly.

Attendance was 5413 last week. I wonder if a Saturday game will be better attended.
