Cap mentions that SFA receivers are about even with the Cats. I'm skeptical here. They have a cluster of guys who have made big catches in games. So JCat, are you basing that on reputation or actual 2022 results. Take a look. * Full disclosure. SFA’s stats are inflated by the Warner game so I took those out. Therefore, the Jacks’ stats are for 4 games rather than 5. 1. The SFA receivers work with a much, much better QB than ACU receivers. If the QB situation were reversed, I suspect we would be raving about the ACU receivers. At the same time, SFA has played the tougher schedule. 2.ACU’s top receivers are Clark, Golightly, Catalon, Taylor, Ballard and Scruggs. They average 13 catches and 181 ypg. SFAs top receivers are Gibson, Wedman, Simmons, Miller and Rikel. They average 10 catches per game for 125 yards. 3. The SFA receivers have 2 catches for more than 50 yards. ACU has no receptions over 50 yards. Both resulted in touchdowns. However, the Wildcats average 2 more yards per catch overall. 4. So head to head, who would You take? Clark (22/214) or Gipson (14/145)? Golightly (14/236) or Simmons (10/135)? Catalon (16/214) or Wedman? (6/135) Taylor (7/141) or Rikel (8/121)? Ballard (3/73) or Miller (5/94)? So really, they have one receiver who has made big catches in games. Last year Gipson had 1000 more yards than the next receiver. But overall, it looks about even. I hope the Cat receivers prove me wrong. I do think Jacksonville St and Alcorn St (faced by SFA) were better teams than Lamar and Prairie View (faced by ACU). So the Jacks numbers on offense are down from playing a few better teams. I'm glad you've pulled the Warner stats out for comparison with ACU. That does change how to look at the numbers. I'm reluctant to say many negative things because we've had readers become upset when talking about Wildcat player weaknesses, but there's no way to answer your question without saying a few things. So here goes: I would take Gibson over Clark/Golightly because Gibson has proven run after the catch ability. Clark is primarily a possession receiver, and he's had some challenges with drops. Golightly has nice size and can make a few jump ball catches, but I thought he'd create more separation. Most of the corners we have faced just run with him step for step. Wedman seems to have earned his minutes and is open because all the attention Gibson draws. Catalon might be better than him, but the Cats can't seem to get him the ball enough to notice. The last two games he's got one catch. Blaine Taylor had a nice game against Utah Tech, and made a play or two on the ball. I'd love to see him running a route rather than just a jump ball. It's sort of hard to assess what kind of receiver he is when his usage is so one-dimensional. I think SFA probably believes they can cover a one-on-one shot play. The passing system at SFA puts a lot of pressure on the D to spread out and make tackles in space. Because of our erratic QB play (and inability to pass block), it's hard to say what kind of passing chemistry the Cats actually have. But if you were to drop Trae Self on to the ACU roster, we're a playoff team and SFA might struggle to win half of its games in conference. He's the clear difference maker.

Does anyone know if Anthony Smith is back this week, or not yet? KP expected him to still play this year.

I think some parents get upset because opinions and assumptions are made without all the facts. We have the advantage of talking to the players after the film is watched and broken down. We know if the play was design to let a d lineman go and get to the second level because it’s a quick pass design, but you think o line missed the block…. Or various other things that didn’t happen and the fault looks to fall on one when it might really be on another. Or the injuries and illness that are going on…..
But with that being said. It’s always a team effort win or lose.
And, please share your thoughts and opinions. That’s what this is for. I’m a big girl and if I disagree, I’ll say so. No hard feelings. I just have to remember most are making opinions without the facts. And that’s ok. That’s what a fan does.
On the road headed to the game. See y’all there! Go Cats!

Footballmama, you have been one of the few parents who has consistently put forth good feedback that was balanced, whether or not I agreed with you.

Just got to the hotel and ready for some football. It will start off a little warm but should be a great evening. It is nice being in the pines again.

Weird - on Live Stats the plays far ahead of the radio play. Also, the roster they are using for Live Stats is a year old -- they have already given credit for tackles to Hunter Kier and Kam Stokes among others.
