Watching UT vs OU it is clear that the Texas offense is very deceptive. I have not seen such ingenuity from the 'Horns in years, maybe never. They are running play after play that causes OU to shift or be fooled about where the ball is going. This is something I think ACU has been missing all season. We have run a couple of reverses but the UT offense is far more ingenious. Not sure they can do it for a whole game and who knows the outcome of that game, but no one would have stopped the first two TDs UT scored today.

As long as we can do it with a bucket full of different plays. We tried a lot of shifting and motion to fool defenses the last couple of years under Dorrel, but really only had a couple of plays that we actually went to. So, defenses were only fooled a couple of times and then quickly caught on.

Tough to compare to not only one of the best offensive minds in the country but also a team with more talent than ACU could ever dream of having.

The thing that bothers me about our offense is that our up the middle running plays often take too long to develop and we end up losing yardage on plays that should get positive yardage.
At least we are not running jet sweeps almost every series as we seemed to do last year.

Dobbins is pretty ingenious the way he wiggles through the line, and if he gets to the second level, watch out. We have good running backs and when our injured one gets back it will be a challenge to choose the starter. This could mean a more rested fourth quarter, and a break-away play more often.

I have talked with Jermiah and RoVaughn. Both of them had very poor coaching in high school. Neither of them was taught that a running back is supposed to go the the ground when he is hit. As a result they both just keep on churning their legs, plowing ahead, and refusing to go down. Maybe our coaches can teach them better technique. I talked to Jermiah after the game at SFA. He apologized and promised that he would try to do better this week. Love that kid. However he told me that I can't call him a kid anymore as he is turning 21.

Well, two weeks in a row Dobbins is the number one choice of the whole conference offensively, and Banks Jr is really powerful as well. Glad we don't have to play against either one of them. I don't know the status of Smith.
An offense that scores 38 points is in pretty good shape, but what was the consensus about our defense. The loss was not just becaue our offense started slowly. It was special teams and defense as much as anything. Zepeda's kicking is not like last year's but I don't know enough about technique to suggest what is different. The way things played out, we were mistaken to think the SFA game would tell us a lot. It only told us we continue to start slowly and don't show up in the first quarter. Now is a test. SUU and homecoming... I think we need a blow out with a fast start and a full four quarters of pouring it on. Time to erase any thoughts of the last game. SFA knew they were lucky, just watch them go crazy as the game ended.

I’m not worried about the Defense. 2 of SFA’s scores were short drives and another came after a turnover, which was a long drive, but they had some momentum and was their first drive of the second half. They also have probably the fastest WR in the WAC, which didn’t do a lot in the second half.

I know one thing we have talked about for some time on this board -- more effective use of our tight ends. Last year, tight ends had 15 receptions in 11 games. This year, Wildcat tight ends have 19 receptions in 6 games and they seem to get more each weekend. Colt Cooper, Noah Caldwell, and Jed Castles also run well after the catch.
While this is not "deception" per se, it certainly indicates better tight end usage than we have seen since Ben Gibbs a decade ago.

We are strong at tight end and our guys are playing well. Actually, our TEs have made some pretty remarkable catches. On another front, they have the size and have used it to make some good blocks.

Jed Castles made an great run early in the 4th quarter on 3rd and long for a big first down. He just wouldn't go down.

After the SUU game I looked up our field goal stats. My goodness, we are well under 50 percent accuracy for the season. Now with 3 blocked punts, not to mention the 55 yard run back on a missed FG at SFA, it may well be that our special teams are the weakest part of the team. Our offense and defense are better than our opponents up to this point in the season -- talking about totals. We could have a fine team but I think our offensive play calling and special teams need some thought.
