Sorry I haven’t posted in a while has been busy covering high school sports the last couple of months. After seeing Owen Allen basically carrying the Dragons to their 5th consecutive district title last week, why haven’t the Wildcats scouted him? I know Patterson has good running backs but Allen is a game changer running back. I can’t believe Patterson hasn’t even sent his running back coach to a home game to watch him. Right now he doesn’t have many D1 offers and it’s puzzled many reporters who covered him this season. Here are the highlights from last weeks game below. fb.watch/gw29VRkRCu/

Owen's only two schools of interest are Army and Air Force on the 247 website. So maybe he is interested in the military to the exclusion of other teams.

Army and Air Force are two teams at the top of his list currently. On Rivals, it has TCU, SMU, Wisconsin and North Texas still trying to recruit him. I'm just surprised not more Texas Schools have been interested, that's all. I applaud him his he does decide to go to one of the armed forces teams.

Coaches visited SC this summer plus elite camps. this summer. He was likely sent a letter that invites him to apply. 2. If the player expresses interest - follows up the letter somehow - then ACU sends him an information packet. The player reports grades, test scores, accomplishments, religious activities plus a referral from the coach. The player also is asked to send film. Not huddle highlights, rather real game film. This is likely on line these days rather than printed. 3. If the player does not respond or does not indicate an interest in ACU, the coaches move on. If the player does respond with interest, then a determination is made whether to recruit him. i.e. is he good enough, smart enough and has good character. Plus, they expect the player to do the legwork and submit the materials. In the past, coaches wouldn’t consider materials submitted by parents, etc. I can’t say about Patterson for sure but I don’t think I’m too far off. MavsMan probably knows more details.

Coach Badon is following Allen. What Cattitude said is accurate. This staff likes to offer players that have visited in the summer or fall or have real interest in playing here. There is also time for things to change. Once the season is over, the staff will hit the road and continue recruiting. It is also likely, because it has been the case the past few years, that SLC will have a playoff game at ACU. Prime chance to get a good view of the player that way.

Badon can usually be found at Abilene High games on Fridays to watch his son play. I'm not sure how much ACU coaches go to high school games to actually scout players.
Patterson was there at the Crosstown game this year, but that was also the day after they played Lamar -- so he had an open Saturday ahead of him.

Generally I would think that college coaches are a little preoccupied on Friday nights during football season to be driving all over Texas scouting players. Just because you don't have a presence at a game doesn't mean they haven't looked at someone
