As Cap mentioned creating a separate thread for the broadcast disucssions would be a much better idea, so wanted to go ahead and start one and open it up with this general question for everyone:
What are your thoughts on ACU broadcasts? This can be production level, commentator level, pros, cons, general thoughts. I've made my opinion on our broadcast crew known, so I don't want to open with my longer thought out response, but wanted to hear everyone else chime in first.

I for one say that our broadcast is good to very good. I will admit I am biased as I vividly remember watching the football game streams that looked like they came from a cell phone camera in the press box next to the radio announcers. No crew to announce it, just the radio announcers call and them talking to each other when the radio was on break. Considering the difference between that grainy video that barely followed the ball and watching the ESPN feed from my smart TV with announcers, on screen banners and replays, I am extremely happy. I know I am comparing our D2 days with our current FCS status, but at the same time, I still look at this as essentially the same university with about the same sized student body. Given that has not changed much, I think they have done a heck of a job just to get it to where it is now.
The only real complaint that I have is I wish they could sink up the volume of the commercials and the announcers on the ESPN feed, so I don't get blasted every time it goes to commercial.

ditto the volume problem... love the ACU broadcasts, but the volume of our announcers is too low. I wish the volume in Moody anouncements (and music) was a bit less and the volume of the broadcast was a bit more.

I love that I can watch most ACU football and basketball games on ESPN+. Complete game changer for out of towners. That being said I was trying to compare the differences that I notice between our ACU broadcasts vs. the big time SEC games that I also watch. The biggest one for me is the lack of crowd noise on the broadcast. Without the crowd noise it really lessens the energy you feel from the broadcast. The announcers aren't a problem for me but the lack of juice from the crowd lessens the product. Other than that I have minimal complaints. Thankful for the chance to watch when I can.

Adding my ditto to the volume issue. I also wish there were fewer ACU ads. As much as I love ACU, seeing the same ad for online ACU or ACUTV gets a little old. Camera views are excellent compared to other schools and the announcers are fine since most are students.

Watching the CBU broadcast was PAINFUL, made me so very thankful for the quality of broadcasting ACUTV puts on. Now, our student broadcasters do need to step-up a little on their homework as well as their presentation, but over-all they do a really good job. The camera angles and video quality put the old broadcasting to shame. It's night and day. We do homer some, but do A LOT better job of keeping it balanced than most other WAC broadcasts. I would like better play by play mixed in though, as well as historical data for both sides. I also agree with working in crowd energy into the broadcast. It would really help keep things interesting and fans at home engaged. I also agree with the issue of the sounds sometimes between broadcasting and commercials. ACUTV has room to grow but has brought us SO far from where we were as 75 pointed out above.

Explaining that commercials on an app are too loud is a little different than complaining about the noise at a live D1 football game.

A few FACTS to add to this conversation. Made some notes while watching the tv broadcasts of the women vs CBU and the men vs SHSU. Women's game: the louder/excited voice when something occurred: for CBU 20. For ACU 7. Adjectives to describe something that happened: For CBU; phenomenal 3, spectacular 3, remarkable, incredible: for ACU 1 incredible. Extensive talk about individual players: CBU 7, ACU 3. The level of excitement and volume for CBU accomplishments way more for CBU. It's as if the announcer is rooting for CBU. Every other announcer in the conference is obviously rooting for the home team. I totally expect that. Biased, yes. Obnoxious, no.
Men's game vs SHSU: for SHSU incredible 2, terrific, wonderful pass, wonderful kick, powerful rebound, big time rebound, big time jumper, what as finish. Used the word blowout at least 3 times during the last 2-3 minutes of the game. . ACU, virtually nothing. If the games are being done FOR ACU, this don't cut it. If for ESPN+ as some seem to want to think, what's the difference between ACU and the other schools? ALL of the games are on ESPN+. Apparently some of the people on this thread want to watch an ACU home game and listen to the ACU broadcaster root for the visiting team. I don't. I find it so annoying that after yelling at the tv 4 or 5 times, I just have to mute the sound.
One more comment: Our supposed play by play guy doesn't do play by play. Play by play is who has the ball, what the player does with the ball, who receives a pass, who takes a shot, who gets the rebound, etc. In our games there will be entire possessions where NOTHING is said about any of those things. Also, I have NEVER seen the announcer for another team name an opposing the player of the game, and, after beating them at home, and then bring that player over for a giddy congratulatory interview. What is that? It's like: "Hey, you played a really great game and your team came in here and kicked our butt. I am just so excited for you and your team. Please come back and beat us again as soon as possible."

If it was meant to be an ACU broadcast, it would be plastered with ACU logos on scorebugs and all over the screen (see GCU). The broadcast is meant to look like an ESPN broadcast, and therefore the announcers will broadcast it as ESPN broadcast. Not an ACU broadcast. I don't get what is so hard to comprehend about that. I guess you didn't watch the UTA game last season when we won at the end and Jared Sandler (UTA broadcaster) did an on air interview with Immanuel Allen then.

I give the color commentary a pass because they are students. Bottomline, it is what it is. Turn down the sound and listen to the radio.

There are some games that whichever team wins, they have to interview a player, regardless of if ACU wins or not. Typically those are games in which it is one of our announcers and a WAC representative.
Grant Boone is by far the best that we have. I know his schedule is crazy busy, but I wish we could use him for all home games; football and basketball
