A few FACTS to add to this conversation. Made some notes while watching the tv broadcasts of the women vs CBU and the men vs SHSU. Women's game: the louder/excited voice when something occurred: for CBU 20. For ACU 7. Adjectives to describe something that happened: For CBU; phenomenal 3, spectacular 3, remarkable, incredible: for ACU 1 incredible. Extensive talk about individual players: CBU 7, ACU 3. The level of excitement and volume for CBU accomplishments way more for CBU. It's as if the announcer is rooting for CBU. Every other announcer in the conference is obviously rooting for the home team. I totally expect that. Biased, yes. Obnoxious, no. Men's game vs SHSU: for SHSU incredible 2, terrific, wonderful pass, wonderful kick, powerful rebound, big time rebound, big time jumper, what as finish. Used the word blowout at least 3 times during the last 2-3 minutes of the game. . ACU, virtually nothing. If the games are being done FOR ACU, this don't cut it. If for ESPN+ as some seem to want to think, what's the difference between ACU and the other schools? ALL of the games are on ESPN+. Apparently some of the people on this thread want to watch an ACU home game and listen to the ACU broadcaster root for the visiting team. I don't. I find it so annoying that after yelling at the tv 4 or 5 times, I just have to mute the sound. One more comment: Our supposed play by play guy doesn't do play by play. Play by play is who has the ball, what the player does with the ball, who receives a pass, who takes a shot, who gets the rebound, etc. In our games there will be entire possessions where NOTHING is said about any of those things. Also, I have NEVER seen the announcer for another team name an opposing the player of the game, and, after beating them at home, and then bring that player over for a giddy congratulatory interview. What is that? It's like: "Hey, you played a really great game and your team came in here and kicked our butt. I am just so excited for you and your team. Please come back and beat us again as soon as possible." What do you mean "If for ESPN+ as some seem to want to think". If it was meant to be an ACU broadcast, it would be plastered with ACU logos on scorebugs and all over the screen (see GCU). The broadcast is meant to look like an ESPN broadcast, and therefore the announcers will broadcast it as ESPN broadcast. Not an ACU broadcast. I don't get what is so hard to comprehend about that. I guess you didn't watch the UTA game last season when we won at the end and Jared Sandler (UTA broadcaster) did an on air interview with Immanuel Allen then.

No, I didn't watch the UTA game on tv last year, I attended the game. I would love to have seen the interview with Manny. What is the difference with our broadcasts and all of the others? They are all on ESPN+. We must be watching different telecasts. The ones that I watch have ACU stuff, people, ACU "ads", pictures, etc. all throughout the broadcasts. It all looks like "an ACU broadcast" to me. The ONLY thing that isn't ACU is the play by play guy. And, yes, it would be more than great to have Grant do the telecasts. He is really great, a real pro at it.

These students still put other schools to shame most of the time, even with the things they need to fix.

That is true Outsider. Grant is very good when he does golf coverage for CBS and other networks. I just wish as the voice of ACU we could use him more

So we are complaining about the student play by play guy who is trying to learn the profession and approach it as unbiased as possible or Zach Carlisle (whom I don’t know his title) because he’s not homer enough?

Zach has done a really good job of coming in and filling big shoes left over from Grant when Grant had other roles, responsibilities and contractual obligations. I think that he can get a little better with his play by play, along with the students, but over-all, he has made the position his own in both broadcasting roles and coach interview shows. My hats off to him. The students are having to learn a lot of different roles when it comes to broadcasting. Play-by-play calling is just one, but yes, they could do a little better job when they do work it in and a better job of balancing play calling with interviews, history/player pieces, etc... ACUTV teaches the students to be professionals and unbiased; thorough broadcasting skills will be expected. These are just the students in front of the camera. The ones behind the camera, doing the videography, editing, programing, producing, etc... are also learning and still doing better jobs than other broadcasts that I have seen in the WAC, and other conferences. The SLC broadcasts were even worse. Again, go back to where we were years ago and we are light years ahead. IF ACU keeps doing what they are, it will get better.

Obviously your idea of "a really good job" and my idea of decent play by play announcing are not in the same universe. I am not talking about coaches interviews. Totally different subject. I posted some facts about the last two broadcasts. Would you like to respond to them? Do they seem unbiased to you? Is the guy doing play by play a student? Do you know him personally? Also, I do not care where we were years ago. How is that in any way relevant to doing play by play of a basketball game? I thought at ACU we strived for excellence, not settled less than mediocre.

You are too focused on one area period. What ACU is doing is way better and way bigger. Move on. If ACU only focused on play by play, and not the other areas then it would be doing a disservice to it's broadcast students and NOT striving for excellence in broadcast education. The game broadcasts include all the things I talked about, not just play by plays.

DallasAlum, Zach is Zach Carlisle. He is an associate SID. We have mentioned him and his role many times on here. He is the main play by play person for basketball games. Typically an ACU student is serving as the analyst.
Also, what does it matter if he knows him personally or not? I know him; great guy and loves ACU since he started working here. Is he Grant Boone? No, but few are. Zach has his own flair and things that he will say. Some will like it and some won't.
I am a basketball junkie; watch all the time, any conference, not just ACU. Many of the lower level schools like us show a lot of commercials that are about their university. Is it a bit much to see the same 4-6 commercials, yes, but what if one of those commercials gets a family/student interested in ACU?
Last comment, if you truly feel like our own announcer is not pro-ACU enough, email him. You can go to the ACU Athletics Staff Directory page, as his email is on there.

It matters to me if he knows him because that could affect the lens through which he views this whole issue. What does being a "great guy and loves ACU have to do with this discussion? To me, zero. Neither do the commercials shown on the broadcasts. Did you read what I posted about the CBU and SHSU broadcasts? Care to respond? I don't care about anyone's "flair". If you are going to do PLAY BY PLAY then do PLAY BY PLAY. All I am asking for is if you are going to do ACU broadcasts, try not to continuously gush and ooh and ahh over the things done by the visiting team and virtually ignore the same things when done by the Wildcats. Seems really simple to me. Finally, I am not talking about what "you truly feel like", I am talking about provable, objective reality.
