Can't say I am surprised -- disappointing to see.

Currently we have baseball but I think football (which is hard to imagine) is now the only sport with optimism going in to next year.

We've got a long way to go to reach the five year strategic plan goal that calls for "consistent top three finishes" in the Cup.

We shouldn’t have left the Southland to be a bottom feeder in the WAC. It’s hard to be excited about the future of our athletic program when we continually have less resources than virtually all of our competition. This year with how our teams performed is a preview of the future. Yes the SLC is a smaller conference but if we had stayed we’d be running that conference right now which is worth more than losing in a big conference. We should’ve swallowed our pride and gone back like Lamar did.

The WAC has really helped grow our footprint and I believe our better schedules are directly related to being in it. Baseball is on the up and so is football. Both basketball programs struggled this year and our coaches have to evolve and step up, but I think we can get back to being a competitor again in the WAC. I am not sure what is going on with softball or golf, but I think they will only get better. We brought in a new coach for soccer, so that is a wait and see. Yes, ACU needs to improve their athletic budgets, but that doesn't happen overnight. I have major issues with the WAC, but it was a good move with what was happening in the SLC.

The ultimate destination of the WAC with the WAC/ASUN football initiative is not entirely predictable, but it sure should be a step up. I guess time will tell. ACU is emerging as a national university and a bigger footprint is part of that equation. Looking back at the SLC is not a very productive path. Yes, we could dominate the old Lone Star Conference today, but how would that distinguish the university? It wouldn't. Our path must be to step up and that means stepping up on many fronts. ACU can and must do it.

We were 1 win away from winning the conference tournament last year. I mean shoot.

I think women’s sports have been the most disappointing over the past five years, soccer, volleyball, basketball, softball all need to improve and I don’t know if it’s all funding or not. We won’t ‘keep up’ until we see some of these sports help contribute more than a 7th place finish in conference.

First of all, it is premature to write off this year. Baseball is looking better all the time. The men's T&F team should make a run at the top-3 and possible even the title. Tennis is strong again this year. A lot can change with the Cup standings this year.
No doubt basketball for both the men and women was disappointing. I think that will change in the next few years.
Do I wish we had more teams in the conference that are within a reasonable driving distance. Of course. Do I wish that the other sports besides FB and m/w basketball were better funded? Of course, since my favorite sport, T&F, is the sport most effected by this. But, I do think the funding will eventually get there for all sports. I certainly don't mind that we are NOT in the same conference with schools like Lamar, McNeese, and Nicholls.

Thanks Trackfan, was wanting your input on T&F and hadn't really looked at Tennis closely so didn't want to comment.
