Hate to lose her. Of all the ladies, Harjo had a good mid range game. Her 6'2" frame was hard to defend by most forwards but she wasn't stout enough to handle the rebounding in the paint. Our small team gets smaller with her leaving. I was hoping the offseason would help give her the chance to improve her physicalness.

It appears that Harjo is no longer on the team. She was not in the photo a few days ago of the team lifting weights and is no longer listed on the roster An update on Raychael Harjo. Apparently there has been a family tragedy (No idea about the nature of it) and Rachael is retiring from basketball and moving home. Big loss in my opinion. Good player and better person. I wish her the best.

The boyfriend has been arrested and charged so the family is very likely facing a an extended period of grief while the legal proceedings progress. My heart hurts for Raychael and her family. Note. This info is a matter of public record. I would not post it based on hearsay.

Any clue who was on campus yesterday that WBB was so excited about?

Finally got to sit through a full practice yesterday. The women go home tomorrow for the rest of the summer. Official workouts resume around the 1st of October.
So here’s the scoop as I see it. Player by player.
#1 Aspen Thornton. Appears to be fully in control of the offense. We saw what she’s capable of. Starting PG for sure. #3 Bella Earle. She is so so good. Great defender and passer. Awesome court sense. Still wasn’t hitting 3-pointers yesterday. But she’s a stud with or without a high 3-point percentage. Starting wing. #4 Kenadi Rising. She’s definitely a player. Scores inside, medium, and long. Will be an option for the stretch 4. Athletic. #5 Yle Perez. Plays a lot like Aspen. Can get in the paint and shoot 3. Hit a pretty good % of 3s during drills. Quick and athletic. Initially I think she will be counted on off the bench for instant offense. #10 Peyton Hull. Oh my. This girl is good. She has all the tools. Don’t know what the coaches are thinking right now but I think she will pay a big 2-3-guard and create all kinds of matchup problems. #12 Addison Martin. No knee brace this year. She didn’t practice yesterday for whatever reason. Didn’t look hurt. Starting low post. #13 Zoe Jackson. We all know Zoe. Super quick. A+ defender. Will get 4-5 rebounds per game just on speed alone. Will share point guard with Aspen again. #14 Meredith Mayes. Although wearing a knee brace, she went through every drill at full speed. Strong frame without being bulky. Knows how to put the ball in the bucket from the low post. Will back up Addison very effectively. #20 Tristin Keller. Didn’t practice yesterday. Looked like she hurt a knee but was moving well and wasn’t limping. #21 Claire Traeger. Strong frame. Likes to play physical - at least yesterday. Not sure where she will play. Hustles. Maybe just a little like Madi Miller. #22 Gracy Wernli. Very athletic and quick. Slender frame but kinda long arms. Right now I project her coming off the bench. #23 Claire Graham. Did not practice. Told me she tweaked her back where she had surgery in high school. Fan favorite for her hustle and enthusiasm. Will contend for a starting wing opposite Bella, perhaps. Off-season has transformed her frame. Looks leaner and possibly faster. #24. Emma Troxell. More superlatives. Very strong. Can really jump. Like Peyton, I can’t imagine her not playing a lot of minutes and she is a 4-forward. There’s an opening there. Don’t know how well she can score. I think she will play a lot and has an outside chance to start. #32. Brooke Jessen. Strong backup post player. I’m still looking for her distinctive skill. Good all around player off the bench.
I’m trying to project MY starting lineup based on what I saw. Obviously the coaches will have more informed ideas. Aspen, Bella, and Addison for sure. But who’s going to play the other wing and the other forward? I think you throw the freshmen in and see how well they swim. So I’m starting Peyton and Emma. Put the talent on the floor and turn them loose. Not so bad starting Claire G and Kenadi, however. Better depth than a year ago, for sure.

Great report. Got to meet Peyton Hull and she is super impressive. Wish we had Harjo back but from the above report we should be very good this coming season.

I‘Liyah Green, whom Imani replaced is now director of operations for Erika Lambert at North Florida. I figured these type of positions will see lots of turnover as they are very young and working on rising through the ranks. Imani struck me though as she was one I watched compete against us several times. Being a Texas gal, I hope she sticks around a little longer.
