No kool-Aid here. Like last year, the proof is in the pudding. Can we win the tough games and not lose by 3? Can we win the games we aren't supposed to? Those are still very appropriate questions and yet to be answered or even surmised... There is a LOT of potential there, but potential doesn't win games. This year is a tough schedule, and even if we are as good as last year, we could end up with an additional loss. Here's to a great last couple of weeks of camp and then to getting even better as the season progresses.

Statement from Wylie HC today. "I think expectations are always high. If you don't think that way going into things, you're kinda missing the point."

Wow! I thought scrimmage was at 7 pm. Rc says we have a fine secondary. Coach Thrash says we have some of the bedt DB's in the nation. Liking how this sounds. Any other insights? How'd the LB's look dry? I thought they played somewhat better, especially later on in the scrimmage. They obviously are adjusting to the 3-3-5. Running the ball is just too easy. Of course, our OL is good. Hope 42 can get them to take the cowboy collar off. It frustrates him and he can’t turn well.

Still trying to figure out where the time for the scrimmage was. I searched our football twitter page and nothing. No announcements were made either. I asked ACU football and they didn't answer.

I don't think they really wanted people there.

The lack of information is not as big an issue here compared to Tarleton. One of their fans sent me a note that they are getting almost zero information. They do not know who their quarterback will be. ACU is far better apparently, and that is good news.

Somehow being better than Tarleton is scant praise.

I'm a little concerned that from dry's perspective we are not very good right now in defending the run. Certainly the better teams we play will have good running games and if we are exposed in that area even the poorer teams we play will go more "run heavy." Maybe this "weakness" can be explained by us having an experienced OL and many quality RB's or it could be explained by us having a new defensive scheme and we'll get better. Or it could be that we have so many newcomers on the DL and LB that have not played together before that we're needing more time to get it together. I don't want to think it's because we don't have the players to play the 3-3-5 and we will be vulnerable to the run all year. Most defenses are geared to take something away from the offense, what is the strength of the 3-3-5? From my inexperienced eye we have a solid corps of LB's in Young, Moore, Coheley, Wilhoit, Vaughn, Kelley, Taite and maybe others who play a hybrid DB. But the fact remains, we must be able to stop the run.

I've always been a proponent of speed on the football field, whether at RB, WR or DB. So it is curious to me that maybe our 2 fastest players are both QB's. That understanding may not be accurate but in listening to our QB coach, Hut Graham may be our fastest player and DeAngelo Ponder has "elite speed." Looking forward to how we use these two young men. With the supposed depth we have at QB (6 mentioned in the position write-up) it would seem to me that Graham would be on the field at a receiver position some (maybe more than some) and Ponder might be used to stretch the field at times. Will be interesting to watch.

That they abandoned that still confounds me. Believe it or not, the Tarleton OC is my neighbor. On the 4th of July, we were lighting fireworks on top of the hill and we started talking about ACU and Tarleton. I asked him, "Have you ever been able to figure out why Tarleton quit running the ball on us last year?" He just chuckled and complained about how they got no OLine help this year in the portal to block our DL and LBs. That could've merely been the Coors Light talking though. LOL
