I believe it is important when you criticize and then things change that an apology be verbalized. I have been critical of ACU sports for not keeping us up to date on certain sports, especially this fall about our coming football season. I want to praise Ray Fink and others who have been giving us daily updates and reports on our football team. I realize that our sports info department is understaffed and do they best they can with what they have. These position articles by and large have been great for one (me) who desires constant information. Kudos to Ray and staff for getting this info out. Also, kudos to those on the board who have attended practices and scrimmages and have shared their insights.

DL report is out. I hope this group can help us "get off" the field and give the offense a chance to score.😄

I've always been a proponent of speed on the football field I've always thought slow players were better

Lots of length at corner and depth seems to be better than we've had in a while. The write-up was a little hard to read because of the grammar.

I like what I see about the cornerbacks. Of course, beginning with 2 starters who played well last year is a good starting place.
My question is: typically in the 3-3-5 defense, is the extra backfield person usually a corner, a safety or a safety/linebacker hybrid? I did not see anything in the CB preview that overtly prepared me to see an extra CB out there on Aug 31. Maybe the safety preview will answer that question for me.

In the typical "nickle" defense you still have 2 corners, 2 safety's and a hybrid corner/safety. We recruited several safety's with the ability to play corner (I believe Mukes and O'Neal and maybe others fall into that category) so whether the 5th back is a corner or safety we might not ever be able to tell. We also have had some safety's who play the LB position at times so we have lots of interchangeable parts.

I like the idea of interchangeable parts. I have noticed some of the coaches talking about where they are spending time at practice with athletes playing multiple positions. I really like this philosophy.

I'd expect the starters in our secondary in our 1st game to be Egbo, Jolly, Mukes, Moffett and Plumley. Of course, we rotate players in and out so that combo will change during the game.

Mavsman had mentioned that Izaiah Kelley was on the first team as the third safety during the scrimmage. Will Kelley be sliding over to the nickel position?

Having Kelley in the nickle makes a lot of sense. At 6'2" 210, he's a little undersized at LB but should be ideal in this defense. I still think Mukes will work himself into the rotation. It would be hard to keep a 4 star recruit out of the lineup once he learns the ropes.

Makes me think of Lynn Grady in our early D1 transition days. He was an undersized linebacker in that 200-210 range that was good in open space and an aggressive tackler.
