I think this could be a very good year for us. We will be driving up from Houston tomorrow morning for the game and the Science Engineering NEXT lab opening Friday.

Wasn't sure where to put this, but I hadn't seen anyone mention that Stone Earl was the starter today for UNT against Cal. Apparently UNT brought in a QB this offseason from ULM that was thought to be the day one starter but Stone surprised people and beat him out. Today he had a rough game. 3TDs 2INTs 174 yards passing 2 Sacks.

Not that it matters too much other than correcting stats on the books, but I heard that the targeting call on Egbo from the UIW game had been reversed by the NCAA. Can anyone confirm?

Well, ACU has fallen off the ranking chart and even trails Tarleton's 46 votes. We have disappeared and that is something I could not have imagined starting the season. I hope we can rally and turn the corner going through the rest of the season. I guess time will tell.

I marvel at the restraint that most of our message board members have with only 25 of us venturing out on this preseason poll. How can we maintain our national stature of "having unrealistic expectations" if only 25 of us vote in our own internal poll? Go to the grocery store, buy some purple kool-aid, and tell us what you think our prospects are for this season. Do we have the best TE room in the nation, UAC? Are our DB's among the best in the nation, UAC? Can our new receiving corps hold their own in the UAC? Will our QB play be improved (who will be our starter, Maverick or Quayde)? Will our OL be able to handle blitzes and protect the QB better this year? How about our DL? Will the addition of 3 D1 transfers (Massey, Butler, Oladele) be the answer. LB's look really good on paper, can they be the run stoppers we need? And then there are our RB's, who look like a very good group. Kitten says we shouldn't say we are "loaded" just from coach hype, but what do you guys say? 2 days from show and tell. I think we are in for a very exciting year. I'll take your bait, as maybe one of the newest members, but I'll also be careful because I got one playing on this team... I wish I understood what is going on with Maverick. Everything seemed right during fall ball but it appears he's lost some confidence. Quayde has a gun for an arm and can run but his accuracy just isn't there. Of course, at UNT there were tons of drops, especially by one WR in particular. The drops aren't helping McIvor's confidence for sure... I like our TE room. Can't believe Cooper wasn't utilized more but he's seemed to raise some eyebrows on the other side of the ball. It is a bit disturbing that he's made his way there in front of guys that were recruited to play DE... Our OL has been solid, as they should be. They are all returning. The opening drive against UNT was impressive. That we seemingly abandoned the run for a good bit and lost that momentum is mindboggling. I'd a thought we'd play ball control, keep the D and that air raid offense off the field... I still question whether we have the kind of DL to play a 3-3-5. The DL can dominate when they want but they aren't necessarily consistent enough. That effects the LBs for sure. I think we stopped the run better last year for sure... Not sure what you mean by the LBs looking good "on paper." I think Wilhoit's been a great addition. 42 is playing hurt. Darius looks leaner and more athletic. Cirby has been all over too, they just seem a bit confused. I like that they aren't cycling two separate LB groups in like they did every series or two last year. They can stop the run. They did last year fairly well and were younger. I just think it takes a unique personnel to play the 3-3-5. Shoot, look at TCU. They don't even appear to have the personnel to run Gillespie's 3-3-5, and he's been doing it for two years at TCU and longer at Tulsa... I hope Dobbins can get right with whatever is ailing him. Sunday is for real too. Throw X into the mix and you've got a varying degree of RB you have to be able to deal with... I think we have a great team but the second half of the UIW game paved the way for what happened at Central Arkansas and now confidence seems to be an issue. There were great things I saw at UNT but there were equally concerning things. We need 4 quarters of consistent football that produces a win and maybe we can right the ship.

I know for a fact there is a lot concern in the Ville.

Good observation... they seem upset with the coach's offensive scheme. As our nearest opponent, I just want to win against them for sure (even though there is some family connection to the 'Ville. They seem to know they are not playing well, you are spot on. There is even some coach doubting going on. They (fans and coaches) don't seem in agreement over the air raid versus three up the middle and a 2 yard out.

Hope that Jermiah's sprained ankle is healing well. Also, Reese Young's shoulder and neck and Cooper McCasland's stomach muscle issue. We need all of them healthy. Am not aware of what other injuries that any of our guys are dealing with but feel sure that there must be some.
