I just received word from a colleague at ACU that John Willis past away last night. An incredible guy who taught at ACU for 46 years. He was another of those guys who was pursued by schools all over the country, including the Ivy League seminaries. But, he stayed at ACU where the students were always his mission field. He knew the name of every student in his classes and brought cookies to his classes for the students for all 46 years he was on The Hill. An incredible man of God -- another of the pioneers gone.

Not just one of my favorite professors, but one of my favorite people of all time. He and his late wife would often eat at Cracker Barrel together. He would see me and my wife, also an ACU alum in there, and he would come over and say hello. Even after she passed away, he would still eat there and visit with us. He will be missed greatly.

Heaven gained a saint, for sure. Incredible teacher who made the Old Testament meaningful to me. Always knew our names and genuinely cared for us. He will always hold a special place in my heart.

A very special person, great teacher, and a reason ACU is special. John Willis lived a life of grace, service, and dignity. I hope we can all join him in the future.

“….if I have seen further [than others], it is by standing on the shoulders of giants." (Isaac Newton)
ACU lost a giant this week. John will be sorely missed by all of us who looked to him as a role model and friend.
