The announcer kept saying the wrong names all night. The lack of professionalism, preparation and accountability (well, everywhere) is nauseating. There are people whose job it is on gameday to provide the right names and numbers. Kids are out there busting their tails, and no one (?) in the ACU travel party corrected the PA or statistician. Respect the players. You can tell people things all night long, that doesn't mean the listen/change/correct things. Unless there is an ACU person sitting there with the correct pronunciation and numbers, things are going to be messed up here and there. It even happens at ACU games. The wrong ball carrier, receiver, tackler, etc. get called out all the time at every stadium in the country....especially when there are duplicate numbers. People make mistakes. These things can and are usually fixed postgame by the SID office in the stats. While we should strive for perfection, none of us are perfect. Patience and forgiveness are a requirement when it comes to athletics, for the players, coaches and athletics staff.

The PA announcer was about what you would expect at a 2A high school game. Well, maybe not quite that good.

Years and years ago I did some PA work for high school games. Before the game I would recruit one person from each school to spot for me. They sat on either side and gave me the names which they mostly already knew. Worked very well, BTW.
