Kristen Fifield of GCU was the player of the week in the WAC. 5 games. They say she hit a walk-off 2run HR but it was not the game winner. They run-ruled VaTech 11-2.
She had seven RBIs on seven hits with a .438 batting average, .688 slugging percentage, .444 on base percentage, two stolen bases on two attempts and a .973 fielding percentage. Fifield also had 35 putouts and one assist.
KayDee Bennett of ACU was not player of the week. 5 games.
KayDee had 7 RBIs on 9 hits and scored 6 runs. She had a batting average of .600 (9-15), 1.333 slugging percentage (3 triples and 2 doubles) .625 on base percentage. 4 stolen bases, 1.000 fielding percentage.
The WAC can’t see much beyond GCU.

That’s true. It’s like this in virtually every sport.

Softball began WAC play with a double header against Utah Tech. Lost the first 6-9 but came back in the nightcap to win 9-2. Sammy Shelander had a grand slam in the 2nd game. Our pitchers had 11 walks in game 1.
Rubber game tomorrow. A series win on the road would be nice.

I like this softball team. Just wish we had one "shut down" pitcher. I think Beeman has lots of promise.

Good 2nd game win to split the doubleheader.

Why did we just play a 2-game series vs Tarleton?

SFA is not very good but they have a really good pitcher. Russo beat her in game one but lost to her in game three despite giving up 2 hits in six innings.

After losing badly to UTA twice on Friday, the women bounced back with probably their best game of the season winning 5-1. Lina Russo pitched a gem giving up 5 hits and no earned runs. Sammie Shelstead got the Cats going in the first with a bomb over the left field fence after Olivia Marble walked. Two hitters later, Avery Miloch also homered and they never looked back.
They are tied with SFA for the last spot in the tournament but hold the tiebreaker. Unfortunately, the next two series are against CBU and GCU, #s 1 and 2 in the standings so it’s going to be an uphill battle.
By the way, the 1st inning home run extended Sammie’s consecutive hitting streak to 20 games - an ACU record.

Cats get trounced by GCU today and are swept. No tournament. It's hard to think this program is progressing. We have some nice roster pieces but our overall pitching still is a weakness. Not sure what the future of the program is.
