With the hiring of Chris Ross (a really good man and coach) as the Offensive Coordinator at SFA, the opening led the Lovejoy ISD to look for a new head football coach/AD. And they didn't settle, until the coerced Todd Dodge out of retirement. Here's the story (via WFAA)

Was out of Texas public education for the required one year so can earn his full teacher retirement check AND a full salary. Not a bad deal. A little surprised some university didn't snatch him up where he could have made even more money but he may prefer the high school level.

It does mean extra pay for the ISD to TRS, unless that has changed. You have to pay into the Teacher Retirement System to pay a retired employee. In other words, you pay his salary to him, and then you help TRS pay part of his retirement as well.

That is still true. Just like a district would have to pay for any other employee so not really "extra".
